Basic Info

Update On the 31st Sun of Azeyma's moon, Y'lyfriel Sikah became one with the lifestream. She is survived by dear companions, her bonded mate, Rhesh'ir Zhwan, and their son, Riel'a Zhwan.

The past several years of Y'lyfriel's life have been tumultuous. Since finding her way to the Twelveswood after a fateful voyage, her journey with Rhesh'ir Zhwan and the formation of the Maelstrom Foreign Levy 81st, she has found herself involved in events that she once only thought to read of.

In spite of the grandeur of their adventurers, her personal motivations are quite intimate--she wishes to care for her new family to the best of her ability, and make the realm a safer place for her son. Recent events have turned aside her prior interests in Ancient Allag, though she is an avid scholar of Nymian history. She has a background in botany and naturalist studies, specifically relating to scalekin of the Vylbrand.

Appearance & Personality

Y'lyfriel prides herself on dressing well, and taking immaculate care of herself. Unless stress or fieldwork has a hold on her, she makes effort to appear respectable and well-dressed. Fond of changing hairstyles, Lyf makes far too many trips to the aesthetician.

Though passionate and often quick to leap to emotional conclusions, she does have a studious intelligence that keeps her focused on whatever task is at hand. Whether it be arcanima, naturalism, or contemporary Eorzean mechanical aptitudes, Lyf endeavours to keep herself busy, and is especially pleased when her work can be put towards keeping her family and her company, the 81st, safe.

Biography

Childhood

Y'lyfriel is yet unaware of her birthplace; her mother, Y'zanza Behn, and her father, Sikah, brought her to La Noscea, and it is there that she spent the entirety of her youth. The family lived a short distance from the Swiftperech settlement. Her mother made much of the family's living as an artisan weaver of some renown. When Y'lyfriel was only two years of age, her father, an adventurer, failed to return from a particular outing. Y'zanza spoke very little of his occupation or interests during Lyfriel's growing up, but maintained an insistence that Sikah had died while abroad. Shortly after her father disappeared, Lyf's sister, Y'adebh, was born.

In spite of Sikah's disappearance, the family managed to remain well off. Both Y'lyfriel and Y'adebh were adventurous in spirit, the former finding her freedom in her numerous acquaintances along the La Noscean coast, the latter keeping her head in the clouds---clouds full of adventurers' tales. Neither found themselves in an abundance of trouble, apart from the bumps, bruises, breaks, and heartaches of young lives. Hearing at a distance of Ala Mhigo's plight, and later, the Battle of Silvertear skies, kept them longing to see and experience other lands. Though Y'zanza allowed her daughters a large amount of freedom, they were kept from traveling abroad.

Teenage

The destruction wrought by Dalamud's fall, and Bahamut's emergence, took thousands of lives. Away on a rotation with a patrolling Yellowjacket squad--an apprenticeship that would prepare her to enter Mealvaan's Gate--Y'lyfriel was away from her family's small home when it was brought to ruin. Breaking from her horrified awe at the spectacle that would forever change Eorzea, she rushed home to find only death--Y'zanza's and Y'adebh's bodies still aflame.

With the help of what was left of the small community, the dead were laid to rest. For the next three cycles, Lyf struggled to maintain a living for herself as a weaver, but what little her mother had imparted to her was not enough to find her a suitable living. Resigning from the recovering community of Swiftperch, Lyfriel made her way into Limsa Lominsa and took up her nearly abandoned apprenticeship. She began as a clerk in Mealvaan's Gate, but her studious nature and desire for adventure allowed her a place to study the Arcanum. Alongside her blossoming thirst for knowledge, she made a fair, and perhaps expected number of poor choices. One brief courtship with a Bismarck waiter landed her an apprenticeship at the esteemed restaurant, but it lasted only as long as Lyf's patience.

Present

After two years of study at the Gate, she began a relationship with a Lominsan privateer--Captain Erasmuss Ross. Believing it to be a route of escape into a life of adventure, she allowed the man to convince her to leave her studies and her home, to travel abroad. Their first voyage together was over shortly after it began; Sahagin set upon their ship, and several crew members, including Captain Ross, were killed. The man who assumed command--a renowned Arcanist named Rayner Cantilever, was unveiled to have his own motivations. He assaulted Lyfriel within Ross' cabin, and ordered the crew to sail for a Nymian ruin. Only further disaster awaited their arrival, as a host of tonberries set upon Rayner's new crew. Lyfriel escaped the disaster with two others, a strange stone, and a yet-unknown new companion that would change her life forever.

A New Path

Shipwrecked and adrift, Y'lyfriel was picked up by a passing merchant vessel that eventually made its berth on the eastern Eorzean coast. From there, Lyf traveled to the Black Shroud, but not before discovering the strange, sentient elemental that had saved her while at sea---Eirene, a faerie of Nym. Their bond together freshly forged, they remained together in the Shroud while Lyf attempted to make a living working as a naturalist. While attempting to study a flock of ziz, she happened upon one 'Zee' of the Shroud--Rhesh'ir Zhwan, a traveling, reclusive bard. Time spent together brought them closer, and along the way, Lyfriel met Tahla'li Tayuun, Onuma Ahntifi, Lotan'to Jiub, Dawson Colwell, and X'linwh Tia.

What began as a loose gathering of like-minded companions in the Shroud evolved into a renowned free company operating beneath the banner of the Maelstrom, led by Rhesh'ir himself. Though they've known hardship, she and Rhesh'ir now have a child together, and have found more worth fighting for than either could have suspected after their fateful meeting in the Twelveswood. Brought together by circumstance but bonded by love, Lyfriel and Rhesh'ir became Eternally Bonded before the eyes of their companions and the Twelve. With fresh resolve, they continue to lead the Maelstrom Foreign Levy 81st Company towards fresh endeavors and new threats that circle ever closer.

Miscellaneous

Most of the time, Y'lyfriel can be found in the Vylbrand, aiding her company. Though she does square away time to dedicate to her own interests, her reputation as a healer and scholar are very important to her. Outside of the most casual settings, she conducts herself with an edge of formality, slightly supplanted by a teasing tone that's eager to be a part of her every conversation. She carries a Maelstrom-issued firearm, her grimoire, and a satchel of daily sundries suited to whatever work she's currently involved in.

RELATIONS ♥ Romantic Interest ♥ Platonic Love ● Good Standing ● Poor Standing ♥ ● Rhesh'ir Zhwan : Y'lyfriel's own irresponsible behavior has placed distance between herself and Rhesh'ir lately, but enough time spent reflecting on her own life--as well as her behaviour--have left her dedicated to bettering herself, with the hope that she'll once again make his heart beat a little faster. Thus far, it seems to have worked, though she still approaches their relationship with the care and caution of one freshly begun. ♥ Riel'a Zhwan (NPC) : Y'lyfriel's proudest accomplishment. He is growing more quickly than she can keep track of, and adores the close ways in which the boy takes after his father. ♥ Eirene (NPC) : The bond between Lyf and this faerie is both deep and unusual. Founded only two years ago, they have seen a lifetime of adventure together, and keep each other in close counsel on all issues. She is Lyf's connection to Nym, and the Miqo'te is the means by which Eirene is able to find a purpose in this new world. ♥ ● Onuma Ahntifi : Lyf's sister in all things; their coming together has been an adventure in itself, and there are few people Y'lyfriel cares more for. Seeing her sister lose Lotan'to broke her heart, and she has tried to remain stalwart and present at Onuma's side. ♥ ● Dawson Colwell : Y'lyfriel considers Dawson one of the wisest men she has ever met. She has never had reason to doubt his counsel, and she readily turns to him for advice in every aspect of her life. His new-found talents are a mystery and a fascination for her, but feelings of kinship and respect will always hold priority for her, over his talents with magick. ♥ ● Ralamano Nulumano : Though she might not readily admit it, Lyf considers Ralamano a mentor almost as much as a dear friend. She feels honoured to have his trust, and as with Onuma, there is very little that she would not do for him. More than most, he is the one to receive her ridiculous ideas for the 81st, before anyone else. ♥ Senelle Silverlight : She has been a pillar of integrity for Lyf since they began spending time together, and a great deal of respect supports their friendship. Any feelings beyond the significant friendship these two share will be held in check, for the sake of Y'lyfriel's love for Rhesh'ir. ● Kodaro Ba'rococo : Though he certainly has her respect and admiration, it has not come without trial. Kodaro's recent efforts in Thanalan were largely unfavorable to her, but in spite of her disapproval, she aided in their resolution. Lyf knows her bias regarding Ul'dah, and isn't going to let it stand between her appreciation for a man she calls 'brother.' ● Fen'rin Taveck : Y'lyfriel feels as if she's known Fen'rin for a lifetime. She empathizes with the hardship he endured in Coerthas, and certainly will not be urging his recovery, or his magick aptitudes, faster than he deems fit. When Lyf needs to smile, she often seeks out this sprightly Roegadyn man. ● Ferai Caolann : For as close an eye as Y'lyfriel tries to keep on this man, they really ought to have spoken more. Still, she views Ferai as something of a brother (now!) and would likely go to great lengths to keep him safe, if she must. ● Noor Falmah : Though Lyf made a serious misstep in her dealing with she and Noor's shared feelings, she doesn't resent the younger Moonkeeper. Instead, she remains wary of distance and careful in tone. Noor is still someone that Y'lyfriel trusts a great deal. ● Rinha'li Dhavha : While she feels that she has ultimately failed Rinha'li as an instructor, she still hopes to remain a friend to him. Though his fixation on voidsent puts her easily on edge, she ultimately respects his expertise and enjoys his presence. ● S'aerdha Tia : Her respect for this man's talents and expertise have always been present, but it has taken many moons for her to adjust to, and comprehend, his personality. She is still quite wary of him, but is far less fearful and finds him much easier to approach, than before. ● Lihrit Lightfoot : The ease with which Y'lyfriel would name this girl 'sister' was alarming to her, at first. She has all the makings of Lyf's deceased sibling, and her shining energy never ceases to warm hearts. ● Ainle Goldpaw : One of the most talented men that Lyf has ever met. Though he's quiet, she has confided in him multiple times, seeking his expertise and personal counsel on a multitude of issues. ● Syhrael Danisyggwyn : Though they have yet to spend much time together, Lyf knows fully well how much this woman means to Ainle. She has aided the company on several occasions already, and looks forward to knowing her better. ● E'liah Tia : The recent transformation that E'liah has undergone is of little concern to Lyf, who continues to see her as a kind and devoted person--if not an bit excessively mischievous. ● Rah'na Lihzeh : Though Y'lyfriel still cares a great deal for Rahn'a, she disapproves of his recent behavior. Thinking him unappreciative and aloof, she hopes that someone closer to the boy than herself will set him on a healthier path once again. ● Lynn'wo Vahnal : There's a lot to admire in Lynn'wo, and Lyf will always lament when it's overlooked. More than a scoundrel and magician, she sees a man with a good heart and a glowing optimism. Though she has yet to admit it, she places a great deal of trust in him. ● Kikira Kira : Wanting nothing more than to see Kikira grow into herself and her independance, Y'lyfriel stands at the ready to help Kikira in any way that she can. She's eager to instruct the young Lalafell girl, too, but is hesitant to lead. ● Shoshopu Shopu : A young woman who has grown into independence, since she first came to the company. Lyf trusts Shopu to her own affairs and studies more often than not, but stands ready to aid her where she can. A watchful eye is kept over her advancements in the art of Ancient Allagan summoning. ● Fyrilsunn Fiandoensyn : She's shared few words with him, but witnessing his dedication and prowess has proven time and again Fyril's dedication to the 81st and its members. ● Emilienoix Bellegarde : The fact that Y'lyfriel once carried feelings for this man now pales in the face of their established friendship. She still trusts him in spite of visible missteps and their numerous disagreements, and would not hesitate to seek him out. ● Syrress Detilderan : Syrress' piety and committed tone made an impression on their first meeting, and her subsequent eagerness to help the 81st only furthered her already positive reputation. Y'lyfriel very much looks forward to future meetings with her.
