+ |
Vyncent was born and raised in Limsa Lominsa, son to Orn and Ophelia Tanner, brother to Garin and Wren Tanner. He was always an ambitious child, curious to learn all he could about the daily on goings in the city. He was fascinated by the Maelstrom soldiers, often spending most of his days with his older brother watching them march about the city, spying on them from the docks as they embarked on their ships, or trailed them as best he could to training grounds outside the city, watching their combat training with intense fascination. When he wasn't chasing dreams of becoming a solider, he could often be found with his mother and sister in their small home, never taking to his fathers requests to join him at the docks to learn the family trade. Vyncent was convinced that he would never be a fisherman like his father. He was going to be a soldier, and there was nothing that would stop him from making that a reality. On his thirteenth name day, while trailing a platoon of Maelstrom soldiers back to the city, he came across a worn training axe, accidentally coming loose from one of the supply caravans. Tanner, while still a Highlander, lacked the strength to properly wield the axe, dragging it all the way home to the city. His brother Garin, while only in jest, teased him for being scrawny, and called him foolish to think he would ever have the strength to wield such a weapon properly, let alone efficiently. And it was then that Vyncent made a vow. A vow that he would prove his brother wrong. From that day forward, when the other youth of the city were out getting into trouble, or enjoying the long summer suns, Vyncent was training, from sun up, to sun down. It was his life, strength and conditioning, along with a little spying on the Adventurers from the Marauders guild, effectively teaching himself from sheer observation the ways of wielding an axe, and how to exploits its strength, and also make up for its weaknesses. This was his life for the next three cycles, until his sixteenth name day, when he broke the news to his family that he would be leaving home to enlist with the Maelstrom. .
| ||

+ |
Vyncent enlisted with the Maelstrom Grand Company, of Limsa Lominsa on his sixteenth name day. He was afforded only two suns to say his goodbyes to his family, which he spent the majority of with his Mother, brother, and sister. He was shipped off to basic training, where he endured rigorous training that all enlisted go through, learning basic military knowledge, seamanship, and combat training, excelling and standing out among his company. The structure and discipline that the military life gave him, was just what he had needed, and he took to it like a bird learns to fly. It was natural, it felt right, it was his first steps to becoming a soldier. On completion of basic training, Vyncent was assigned to the 1st Infantry Battalion, 2nd Regiment. His talents with the battle axe, as well as quick thinking on the battle field earned him a spot with Alpha company, the backbone of the Maelstrom's ground forces. Over the next nine cycles, he continued to move up in the ranks, finally earning himself the rank of Sergeant 1st Class, respected not only by those both below him, but those above as well. He had a natural talent for leading and training his men, ensuring they were in top physical condition, ready at a moments call to defend their city-state from any potential threats. His career looked promising, many thinking that he would make a fine Captain one day, taking charge of the entire company, or one like it. It was in his last cycle with the Maelstrom however, that things took a turn in the opposite direction. Garlean activity was on the rise, and skirmishes were taking place all over Eorzea, the 1st Batallion, being no stranger to any of them, often being on the front lines in every engagement. With each skirmish, Tanner was finding it harder and harder to follow the orders of his 'superiors', mostly newer, younger officers, fresh out of the academy, inexperienced in the art of war. Their lack of battle-earned skill was apparent in their often foolish decisions, leading to Tanner's often refusal and ignoring of their given orders. It was only a matter a time before he crossed the rank one too many times, eventually leading to him being relinquished of his command, reassinged to guard duty in Limsa herself. Bored with the daily routine that had become his life, Tanner was often found skipping out on duty, drinking his gil away in the Drowning Wench. It only lasted for so long however, eventually being found out and brought up on charges of dereliction of duty, leading to Tanner receiving an other than honorable discharge, with no plans for himself, or his future.
| ||

+ |
Following his discharge from the Maelstrom, Tanner retreated to a life of alcohol and sin. Most of his days were spent in a drunken stupor, often recovering from the long, hard nights of drinking his life savings, earned during his ten cycles with the Maelstrom, away. He was a common site at the Drowning Wench, and various other hole in the wall dives scattered through out the city, as well as it's surrounding territories. A whole cycle had nearly passed, his strict work out routines and vigorous training bouts with the axe, a thing of the past. His only focus was on when he'd get that next drink, and who's bed he'd be sharing for the night, often shacking up with some poor girl who didn't know any better, for suns at a time, until it finally dawned on them what a mess the man had become. Rinse and repeat, this was his life for the majority of that time, until the night he met Vivian Marselle, with out a doubt, the most renowned lady of the night to grace the streets of Limsa Lominsa in recent cycles. Their relationship started off as one would expect, man and whore, a simple business exchange, gil for physical needs, though it didn't take long to progress into something more. With each passing night spent together, Vivian became more and more aware of the man that used to be Vyncent Tanner, not the withering shell that he currently was now. As ill perceived a profession that Vivian partook in, she was a vastly intelligent woman, with a knack for speaking, and making her point clear. Long nights of vigorous, physical intimacy, slowly shifted to even longer nights of in depth talks and confession, desires and wants, hopes and dreams. It was in these talks that Vivian made Vyncent realize that his life still had meaning, a purpose, that he could still be the soldier he had always dreamed of being. He needed no Grand Company to continue on with those dreams. Through her, he slowly eased back on his current profession, the drunkard he had become, and at her urging, and confidence shown in him, Vyncent turned to his older brother Garin, now leader of a small group of Mercenaries operating out of Costa Del Sol, and in doing so, got himself a second change at being a solider once again.
| ||

+ |
Garin, Tanner's elder brother, welcomed his sibling with open arms, accepting him into his group of Mercenaries, The Wolves. Garin had spent cycles building up his groups reputation, turning a small band of rugged warriors into a respected and dependable group of freelance mercenaries for hire. They received many contracts, and gained quite the notoriety for themselves in the work they chose to accept. It was always a worth while cause, something that aided Limsa and it's people, or served to greater benefit the realm. They were loved and adored by the people of Limsa, often taking on jobs free of charge if the cause was one deemed worthy by Garin. It took Tanner nearly a full cycle to return to his former self, both physically and mentally, attributing the chaos and destruction left in Dalamud's wake to be the final kick in the ass he needed to get his head back on straight. Following the red moons fall, The Wolves took on various missions and leads involved in Garlean engagements, taking them all across Eorzea to either join others in combat against the tyrannical nation, or engaging them solely on their own in more covert, intimate encounters. The group was not more than twenty strong among their ranks, but each of them were experts in their chosen craft, having great success and many victories over their foes. Around 5 A.C., while most of the Wolves were enjoying a bit of down time, Garin was offered a contract to hunt down a dragon that had been tormenting the knights of Camp Dragonhead, one he willfully accepted. Tanner, back to his old self, joined along on the mission, passing up on the chance to return to Limsa with a fellow Wolf he had grown close to over the past few cycles, Eloriel Alanesse, choosing instead to remain at his brothers side. The two tracked the dragon, Skavog, into the frigid tundras of the Coerthas Central Highlands, long changed in the wake of the Calamity. After what seemed like suns of searching, the two brothers finally located their target, cornering the vile creature in the depths of one of the many caverns littering the landscape. The battle, long, and fierce, saw Skavog driven away, but not before the deadly beast landed a mortal blow to Garin, leaving him to die in his brothers arms. Tanner rescinded into darkness, as the light left his brothers eyes, vowing vengeance on the dragon, at whatever the cost. With Garin's death, and Tanner's path for vengeance set, the Wolves fell apart, disbanding and going their separate ways. Upon returning to Lisma Lominsa to break the news of Garin's demise to his family, Vyncent's kin placed the blame on him for his death, something he took very hard, and very personally, ending all ties with three remaining blood relatives he had left. He didn't look back, setting off on his own for the Highlands once again, seeking the beast that murdered his brother.
| ||

− |
| + |
Tanner's return to Camp Dragonhead, and the Coerthas Central Highlands, was for but a sole purpose. To track down the dragon that had taken his brothers life. Fate had other plans for the Highlander, however, forcing a chance meeting between himself and a Miqo'te by the name of Onuma Ahntifi. While out searching the many ruins littered about the highlands, hunting that which he sought to kill, Tanner came across the woman. She questioned his reasoning for being there, sharing little as to why she herself was in the same location. Tanner learned right away that this woman was not startled as easily as others were, showing no fear to his gruff and coarse demeanor, often shooting back at him with flippant responses. He liked what he saw, and it bothered him, for she was a Miqo'te, a race he'd never been attracted to in all his cycles thus far. Before he could let his silver tongue work its charm on the female warrior however, the two were attacked, Dravanians and Heretics rushing their position. The two fought side by side that night, turning the snow white ground red, the blood of each enemy that charged in, and fell, spraying the ground around them. After nearly a bell of repeated onslaught, their foes were no more, leaving only Tanner and Onuma standing among the pile of tattered and flayed corpses. Onuma was injured, Tanner offered to help her, an offer she quickly refused, heading back for Camp Dragonhead to rejoin her Company instead. Stubborn....just like he was, and so he followed the trail of blood left in her wake, making his way back to Camp Dragonhead as well. A few suns were spent in observation, watching the group the woman was associated with. He made his presence known to them in the tavern not long after, leading to accusations of him perhaps being a heretic himself. After Onuma's accusations were discredited by the Captain, Rhesh'ir Zhwan, and then associate Keaira Twinning, a mutual agreement was reached between Tanner and the Captain, and he joined the ranks of the 81st, with the expectation that he would do his part, pull his weight, and aid the company in exchange for assistance in his own personal matters. Reluctantly, Tanner joined the 81st on many engagements in the Central Highlands, aiding the nobles in business with the 81st to earn their favor, and gain entrance to the long closed off city of Ishgard. Tanner made few friends, and more enemies in his time with the 81st, boring quickly of the tasks the Free Company had concerned themselves with. Moons passed, entrance to Ishgard had been granted, and aside from Onuma and Keaira, Tanner had made little progress in fitting in with the company. Further distracted by his own quest for vengeance, he withdrew from company matters, often setting off by himself into the Dravanian Forelands, where his search for Skavog had led him. At last his prey had been located, one final return to the company estate to prepare for the inevitable battle. In his preparations, he requested explosives from Twinning, knowing they would be needed to gain entrance into Skavogs new lair, lacking the ability to fly as the scale kin did. Twinning obliged, but on one condition, that she would be joining Tanner, whether he liked it or not. A brief exchange took place between the two, in which he told her she was not coming. She made it quite obvious that he had no say in the matter, if he wanted the explosives she had in her possesion. Finally giving in, the two set off for the Forelands, infiltrating the home of Skavog, fighting their way to the top of the ancient and crumbling ruins. The battle with Skavog was fierce, and difficult, Tanner taking serious wound in the fight, though thanks to Twinning's aid, and the chance realization of a dormant power contained within him, the two were victorious, and Skavog was slain. Vengeance was Tanner's, ending the life of the one who'd taken his brother from him.
|

− |
| + |
Since Skavog's death, Tanner has made his stay with the 81st permanent, having found not one, but two reasons to stick around, to fight for, and to protect. Those two reasons have remained his focus, and until only recently, have been the only two he has cared about among the 81st. Slowly, the others are starting to grow on him. Time will tell if friendships are formed outside of the two already firmly in place. Tanner has continued to fight along side the 81st in their personal engagements, aiding the company against the primal, Bismark, as well as assisting in finally seeing an end to the Dragon that the 81st so vigorously pursued. Always looking ahead, wanting to protect those he cares for, knowing that the war with the Garleans still wages onward, his sights are now set on a new task, one that will take him away from those he loves and cares for, in hopes that what can be learned will benefit them all in the long run....to the frontlines of the ongoing conflict itself, Ala Mhigo.
|

[edit]
VYNCENT TANNER is a former Maelstrom enlisted soldier, having served with the Grand Company of his city-state for eight cycles. After receiving an other than honorable discharge, he made his way as a sell sword and mercenary for hire. In this line work of he created quite a name for himself, mostly that of a man to go to when you needed a job done. His prowess and skill in combat, most notably with the two handed axe, is well known across the realm, mostly to those having dealings with ones in his line of work. Fate saw his path cross with the 81st Foreign Levy, and he founds reasons to join the ranks of the Free Company, which he has served with ever since. Recent events, and helpful friends with allies in the right places, have seen him reinstated to his former rank in the Maelstrom, preparing for a dangerous reconnaissance mission into the heart of Garlean held territory, the fallen city of Ala Mhigo .
TANNER'S style of dress is one of comfort and practicality, the majority of the time. Simple, loose fitting leathers and garments, often equipped with some form of padding or light protection. On rare occasion he has been known to step up his attire, though the events or company must be deserving of such a thing. On the battle field he is clad in armor from head to toe. When wielding his great sword, his armor is of the medium variety, jet black and fitted to allow for ease of movement when wielding his second weapon of choice. When his preferred method of destruction is in hand, he dawns his custom armor of the bear, looking every bit as a menacing beast, clad from head to toe in thick armored plating, truly defining the roll of what a tanky, front line warrior should be.
Fierce. Loyal. Unrelenting. Tanner, as he goes by to most, is slow to open up, and even slower to trust, sometimes mistaken as arrogant or a bit full of himself, though he doesn't intend to come off as such. Often taken as rude and heartless, he's very stubborn and set in his ways, not overly concerned with upsetting others by his words or actions. He is confident in his abilities and is always willing to lend aid to those in need, whether his demeanor reflects that or not. He'd not leave someone in trouble to fend for themselves, more than willing to charge in to battle and lend a hand. A member of the Maelstrom since his 18th name day, Vyncent rose quickly to the rank of Sergeant, though his promotions came to a sudden halt as he began to have more difficulty taking orders he deemed reckless or careless from younger officers with less experience than he, eventually leading to an other than honorable discharge from the Maelstrom. He believes one can only learn so much from study on battlefield tactics, and the real knowledge is gained on the field, through experience, earned in sweat and blood, along with his respect.
This is a list of the items that Tanner currently is keeping on his person. Feel free to use this information if it comes up logically in the course of RP, such as pickpocketing, a search, etc. Last Updated: 11/16/2015

Here is a list of recent and/or notable fights, roleplay scenes, etc. that Tanner has been a part of. This list is by no means all inclusive, and serves more as a general reference as to what she's been up to.
This was his life for the next three cycles, until his sixteenth name day, when he broke the news to his family that he would be leaving home to enlist with the Maelstrom. .
These are mostly backstory-related relationships.

Tanner has led a long, and hard life. Though his youth was filled with fond memories, he's experienced loss and hardships ever since. His walls were built with each experience he endured, each loss he suffered. Those same walls have also started to crumble, with each life he's touched, aided, and loved. Each has molded him into the man he is today.
Hi! I'm Richelle! I've been a gamer and roleplayer for over a decade now, getting my start back in Never Winter Nights (The good one, not the remake =p)I love love love to roleplay, and to create stories,as well as unique and consistent characters! Overall, I'm pretty laid back as far as guidelines go. I don't have an extensive list of 'Do's or 'Don't's or things that I personally find triggering. So chances are, you won't offend me or make me uncomfortable unless you're trying to or just being really skeevy in general. Still, for the sake of making sure everyone's on the same page here, let me make a few mentions in particular:
