Character
The light can heal, or the light can burn.
General
At first glance, Faye Covington is nothing more than a demure and lovely Midlander of the upper class and a vision in white. One could easily think her as haughty and superficial as your average spoiled rich girl, but the fair lady proves to be remarkably resilient and in control. Rather than a fragile damsel in distress, she is witty, and perhaps too ambitious for her own good.
Name
- Given Name: Faye Lunetta Rosalba Covington
- Nicknames and Aliases: Faye is often addressed as Lady Covington, Lady Faye, Saint Faye, Saint Covington, Miss Faye, Miss Covington, Mistress Covington, etc. or sometimes simply referred to as "boss" by her support priests in Harbingers of Dawn. Other nicknames she has earned for herself by specific individuals include Princess, Blondie, Blonde Bitch, the Snake in White, and Snowy.
Appearance
Faye stands rather tall for a Midlander woman at 5'8", weighing about 130 Ponz, and almost always carries herself with poise, grace and dignity, her shoulders squared, her back straight, and her head held high. Her skin is very pale and smooth, free of any freckles, scars, or blemishes. The woman's hair is straight, snowy white with faint hints of platinum blonde, bangs brushed to her left. She kept it long for all her life, but recently cut it short just above her shoulders to sway about her chin. Her face is oval-shaped with a small, wide, up-turned nose and plump, full pink lips. Her eyes are an icy blue, almond-shaped and lined with thick, dark eyelashes. Her eyebrows are the same ivory color as her hair, delicately arched and neat. Her earlobes are each pierced once, no other piercings or tattoos to be found on her body. Her frame is slender without being too bony or toned, with a small waist, average-sized breasts, and an hourglass figure. The Hyur has a calm and confident demeanor about her. She tends to wear jewelry, usually gold and pearls, and often opts for the more feminine, choosing dresses and skirts over shorts or pants. She wears cloth rather than any armors and is usually seen in white or pale colors. Her appearance is always neat and orderly, no wrinkles, not a speck of dirt, and not a hair out of place.
Speech
Her voice is smooth and melodic, her speaking tone just barely high-pitched enough to be considered soprano. Each word is clear and articulate, carefully pronounced and measured. Her normal speaking voice is soft without being meek or difficult to hear, but when she is giving out orders, the woman is commanding and able to be rather loud if she pleases. The tone of her voice can snap from demure young noblewoman to demanding leader in a single moment. Her speech is not overly formal, but is certainly not casual. She uses words most often to get her way and will therefore change her style of speech accordingly.
Behavior
Polite, mannerly, and charming, she prides herself on being a “proper lady.” Her confidence can often come across as haughtiness, but otherwise she seems fairly pleasant. She’s generally friendly, even if not particularly outspoken, but when someone irks her she can get a bit snippy. She usually keeps her calm and composure, only sometimes lending herself to annoyance or frustration, but any other emotional outbursts are rare. In the most terrifying of situations, she will often be merely alarmed rather than horrified, and when tragedy strikes it's rare to see her shed a tear. Most of her emotions are shallow and feigned, though she's skilled in coming across as genuine. Rarely does she lose her temper, but when she does, she is violently angry, venting her emotions through destructive means. Generally, she hides the emotions she does feel and feigns the emotions she shows, but rarely do others see through this façade. There are a few people, though, who she is (mostly) honest with in her emotions, but they are few and far between. She is incredibly stubborn and ambitious. She presents herself as being rather straightforward (never mind the tricky schemes that she’s probably plotting in her head) and she is rather charismatic. Though she sometimes likes to joke around, she usually refrains from crazy and silly antics, making her a bit of a stick in the mud at times. She has a strong sense of "honor," even if her moral code is unique to herself and somewhat baffling to others, with lying and manipulation apparently being acceptable to obtain an important enough goal. Her thinking is very much along the lines of "the end justifies the means."
Faye hates feeling weak and vulnerable and it is mostly for this reason that she is always seeking power, because she can’t stand seeing others superior to her. This can make her power hungry and overambitious. She is persuasive and manipulative, and she will use and hurt people to get what she wants with little hesitation. She is witty and even if she could win a fight, she would prefer to talk her way out of a situation rather than resort to violence. Rather aloof, she is a bit out of touch with other people and their emotions and ideals. Even if she does claim to care for someone, she will often still use him or her as a pawn to achieve her goals if she sees fit, even if she truly does care for that person. To her, most relationships are expendable. Though even if not always entirely loyal and kind to them, she is fiercely protective of those few people she actually does love, though sometimes it can lead her to be smothering, obsessive, or controlling. Because she dislikes vulnerability, she is rarely honest about her emotions and her intentions, regardless of whether they be good or bad.
Apparently a believer in the notion that knowledge is power, she is often curious and dislikes not knowing things. She tends to be self-righteous and often lectures other people on their manners, morals, honor, or other behaviors. She doesn’t like to be tied down by relationships or responsibilities to others. No matter how close a relationship may seem, most are only superficial on the Hyur's end. She is very vengeful when she feels she's been wronged. Though it’s difficult for her, she tries not to cause mischief, meddle in others’ affairs, or smite a few sinners “for the sake of the greater good,” but she always eventually slips up. Whether Faye is truly malevolent or good in nature is hard to determine. Mostly, she remains in neutral ground.
- Motivations: Helping those in need and helping herself. Ambitious, she seeks power above all else and wants to rule all that she can, but she intends to use that power to make the world a better place, even if also to satisfy her own wants.
- Disposition: Calm, charming, polite, and usually friendly, but a bit aloof, not above snark and sarcasm, and catty when annoyed.
- Outlook: All is justified for the greater good.
Positive Personality Traits
Charming, charismatic, confident, intelligent, persuasive, eloquent, mannerly, polite, ambitious, generous, sympathetic, and usually keeps calm and collected. Fiercely protective if those she truly cares for.
Negative Personality Traits
Manipulative, aloof, scheming, dishonest, secretive, self-righteous, conflicted, conceited, superficial, prideful, a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, and tends to "snap" if she is finally provoked to anger.
Combat
Faye rarely fights unless she must, not viewing her magic or violence as things that should be used for sport or trivial matters. When she does fight, she wields her magic fiercely, seeking to end the battle as quickly as possible. For a conjurer, her destructive magic is especially strong (the downside being her healing is lacking). She usually goes fully on the assault, more of an offensive fighter than defensive. Not much of a brawler to begin with, she is not well-educated in tactics and her anger often gets the better of her in combat. Particularly strange for a spellcaster, she is prone to going into a berserker-like rages. She is quick, but not quite as nimble as a trained fighter, and has little physical strength.

Relationships
Family
- Selene Covington: - Deceased. Faye's mother, a golden-haired Midlander noblewoman. She was killed in a Garlean raid upon the Covington Manor in front of Faye's own eyes. She was strict, vain, and overbearing, but despite it all a kind and generous woman and a doting mother.
- Nicholas Covington/Stanislas Corinthius: - Faye's father, a Hyur man who was a skilled fighter and tactician, and quickly rose up the ranks of the Order of the Twin Adder to become a general. He was a stern and serious man, and often too busy with work to spend time with his family, but like most father's he had a particular soft spot for his little girl. He ushered Faye to safety when their home was attacked and then was killed along with Selene, or so Faye believed. It turns out her father wasn't quite the man she thought.
- Aelius Corinthius: - Faye's half-brother from her father's "double life" who she only recently learned existed. The white-haired Hyur warrior is only a couple years older than his sister. He seems to want to connect with his sister and win her over to his side. It's not working. Despite her distaste for the man, the siblings do have much in common.
- Valerius Corinthius: - Faye's younger half-brother and little brother to Aelius. Still only a toddler. Faye has never met him, but learned of his existence at the same time she learned of Aelius.
Enemies
The Garlean Empire, Voidsent, Voidtouched, Ascians, Leviathan, the Sahagin. Criminals, evildoers, anyone who hurts those she loves (even if it be accidental or justified), and anyone who gets between her and a goal.
Player Character Standing
- ♥ Romantic Interest ♥ Sexual Desire ♥ Platonic Love ● Good Standing ● Neutral Standing ● Poor Standing
- ♥♥ Val Nunh - An ill-mannered Seeker of the Sun who Faye hired as her bodyguard, though after a few tumultuous weeks the two soon became lovers. She was attracted to Val not only for his good looks, but for his honesty, strength, and straight-forwardness, as well as a personality that was quite... refreshing compared to what the upper-class Midlander was accustomed. Quite a mismatched couple, the two look like total opposites at first glance, but they seem to get along quite swimmingly, despite Faye's constant lecturing Val, Val's constant embarrassing Faye, and the bickering it all brings. Faye is thoroughly enamored with the man, genuinely loving and fiercely loyal. It was no easy task convincing the Nunh to try a life of monogamy, but the challenge only further intrigued the Hyur. Due to their stubbornness and conflicting beliefs, the two butt heads frequently, but can never stay mad at each other for long. The two claim to be engaged, though they have already secretly eloped.
- ♥Zularti Vensar - A young midlander man the same age as Faye who drew her attention with his strength and ambition after she saved him from the Sahagin. With his family--and for that matter his entire village--deceased, Tempered, or missing, Faye's family took him in and raised him as their own for the remainder of his teenage years. She found in him someone easy to manipulate, and through him she could control the free company he led, Harbingers of Dawn, from behind the scenes until she became the rightful leader of it. Keeping the act-first, think-later man alive is not easy. Faye spends a lot of time tailing the man and keeping him out of trouble only for him to, quite understandably, snap at her the way a teenager would treat his nagging mom. Despite this, through her time spent with him, she does seem to actually care for the man and treats him as family. She considers him a brother and is fiercely protective of him, though rarely will she swallow her pride enough to admit it in front of most people.
- ●R'aenah Ihari - A Miqo'te woman who made a bad first impression on Faye by insulting her before even speaking to her and talking about her with Val as if Faye was not seated right next to them. Despite what appeared to be a few attempts at kindness on R'aenah's behalf, any efforts toward making peace were quickly forgotten with more insults, what Faye deemed as the woman's seriously lacking social graces, and the Miqo'te's public displays of affection toward Val even when he was on bodyguard duty. Regardless of Faye's efforts to act tolerant of R'aenah in public, if she were hanging from a cliff with her life in jeopardy, Faye would refuse to help her... in fact, she may give her a gentle push.
- ●Siobhain Surtsthalwyn - A Hellsguard who Val seems to respect and trust, Faye also found respect for the woman due to her honor and honesty, despite the Hyur finding Siobhain's methods and hobbies rather brutish. However, though Faye knows well that the Roegadyn's heart is in the right place, being the private and proud person that she is, Faye finds Siobhain's meddling in her affairs to be aggravating. Disliking the idea that she could be pitied or thought a damsel in distress, Faye was annoyed when Siobhain tried to fight a man who unwantedly kissed Faye on her behalf and claimed she would take Faye as her charge if victorious when Faye wanted no such thing.
- ●Kah'li Tayuun - A blind Keeper of the Moon who "sees" with the help of the Aether, Faye finds the Miqo'te to be rational and respectable, and therefore good company. Faye enjoys his rather calm demeanor and rejoices at having some civil company with whom to share a cup of tea. She does not know him particularly well, but finds him to be kind and level-headed, a refreshing contrast to the people by which she is often surrounded, and earned much respect for him when he stuck up for her when she felt she had been mistreated by Val and R'aenah one evening at the Quicksand.
- ●Karaan Nolan - One of Faye's colleagues, a Midlander and the former Strategy Saint, now Chronicler of Harbingers of Dawn. She believes he's likely a good man and intelligent enough, but his negative attitude has made her view him as someone who is pessimistic and dwells too much on the past. She has a cautious trust for the man as he has proven helpful in numerous situation, yet she is unsure of his motives and knows he is not solely loyal to her.
- ●Dartanon Nobis - A Miqo'te and budding Dragoon Faye met when he tried to intercept a fight between Val and Tobias, though she and Val soon befriended him. Despite being initially annoyed at his white knight behavior, she quickly came to appreciate his desire to be noble and do what is right, even if it took him out of the good graces of others or brought him harm. She viewed him as someone honest and honorable, but her opinion of him drastically changed when he eventually admitted he had been romantically involved with a Garlean woman who once ambushed Faye and Val.
- ● Barbarccia Valadis - A Keeper of the Moon who was once something of an arch-nemesis of Faye. The two were likely plotting each others' demise until they came to a compromise over a cup of tea and realized that even if their approaches may differ, their goals and intentions are the same. Though they still often do not see eye-to-eye, they seem to have a sort friendship, alliance, and a mutual respect for each other.
- ● Shadiyah Amari - A Keeper of the Moon woman who attacked Faye and siphoned her aether while she was being held in a Garlean prison, and then immediately sought out Val and forced herself upon him in the same manner. The woman possessed obviously unnatural abilities. Faye resents her and since the incident, Faye has developed a specific, passionate hatred and wariness of anything pertaining to the Void. Her identity was a mystery first, but Faye now recognizes her as Shade, the Mistress of Melfice. With a better understanding of the Voidtouched woman's plight, Faye is trying hard to keep an open mind, but she can't seem to let go of the past and let bygones be bygones.
- ● Melfice Vainchelon - A masked man and powerful mage who offered Faye an antidote when Val was poisoned if she would willingly surrender herself to Garlemald. Faye reluctantly agreed, having no other options but to watch Val suffer and slowly die. He tormented Faye while she was imprisoned and arranged for Shade's assault on her. He seems to be the Keeper woman's "Master." Faye did not learn his name and his voice was obscured, so his mystery was an identity at the time. Faye has been visited once more by the man, who had also terrorized members of Harbingers a few times, and Faye reluctantly struck up a deal or two with him. After several encounters, she soon learned the man's identity--a member of her very own company. With much in common yet plenty of lingering resentment, the two have a very tense and strange "friendship." Faye views him as a powerful ally, and an even more powerful enemy, if only because of the leverage he could hold over her in the form of blackmail. Every time she finds herself contemplating trusting the man, he seems to open his mouth and say something to reopen old wounds. Things are strained and complicated, to say the least.
- ●Anstarra Silverain - A long-time member of Harbingers of Dawn. Though the two may not have started off on the best foot due to some animosity at the time between Faye and Barbarccia, they moved on quickly to become friends and allies. Faye has given Anstarra some advice on how to break her way into the noble class, and she greatly respects the Miqo'te and her goals.
- ●Mimiru Miru - A long-time member and current Support Saint of Harbingers of Dawn. The young and painfully blunt Lalafell is one of the few people Faye considers a true friend, someone who has always been there to support her and Val and offer them help or even just lend an ear in times of need. Faye considers her, Anstarra, and Lan some of the few people who recognize her as an actual person before a leader or figurehead.
- ●Lan Darklyn - A stalwart soldier and current Martial Saint of Harbingers of Dawn. Faye has a lot of respect for the man, noting his unwavering loyalty, constant hard work, and strong sense of duty--even though he sometimes takes them too far. She knows that she and Val can depend on the man and trust him, though she is irked by his dislike for Zularti.
- ● Worren Tigre - Former Strategy Saint, now gardener for Harbingers of Dawn. Faye isn't really sure what to make of the man. One moment he's insightful and hardworking, the next he's only complaining and seeming to try to undermine the leadership of the company. He complains frequently and yet he lingers, leaving Faye uncertain of his motives. When his at-the-time lover made an attempt on Faye's life and he let her slip by rather than following orders to seize her, Faye's opinion of the man was soured, especially after his insistence that by demanding they follow orders, Faye treats the company members as robots rather than people. Since shying away from the realm of combat and becoming the gardener, he's been keeping to himself, though Faye isn't convinced he's finished meddling.
- ●C'eleni Meztli - A Miqo'te girl Faye and Val have encountered on a couple occasions. She's very friendly and seems young and impressionable--hopefully Val won't taint her poor, innocent mind with all his innuendos. Faye enjoys her company and conversation--even if she's caught off guard and clams up every time C'eleni mentions Faye and Val having kids.
- ●Gus Pumpkinweed - The charismatic Lalafell is a business partner of Faye's and a one-time member of Harbingers. Faye doesn't quite understand his fascination with pumpkins and all things spooky, but she supports his odd obsession. She thinks he's full of himself and can be demanding, and as such he can grate on her nerves, but he's obviously a talented businessman, and she considers him a friend as well as simply rather adorable.
- ●Lainseworth Ravencraft - A stammering Lalafell Val and Faye quickly befriended when he joined the free company. Compassionate and honest, with a notable inner strength, Faye quickly developed a soft spot for him, and he even lived with Faye and Val for some time when he had no place to call his own. The two have treated him almost like a son.
- ●Raisan Arcmantle - Current Crafting Saint of Harbingers of Dawn and Miqo'te-turned-Lalafell. Much like Gus, Faye thinks he can be very demanding, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Faye respects his talent in crafting and his endless hard work and ambition to better his skills, as well as his manners and etiquette.
- ●Vaughn Antain - Faye met the Wildwood Elezen and his lover when she was approached about a partnership with the Phoenix Rose, a cause to which she donated and pledged her loyalty. Though soft-spoken and kind, Faye was not blind to the strength he must possess to have come so far from a life of slavery in a brothel. She finds he and Jaques both to be pleasant company.
- ●Jaques Guillaume - Faye deems him as the type that's usually quiet and gruff, but he proved to be a hospitable host. She has a soft spot for he and Vaughn, perhaps finding their relationship similar to that of she and Val. Much like Val, she can tell he is fiercely protective of and loyal to Vaughn, though likely less hotheaded than her own lover. She greatly supports the work that he, Vaughn, and their company are doing to free and rehabilitate slaves.
- ●J'maaira Tuhl - A Martial Lieutenant in Harbingers and someone Faye views as earnest and dutiful. She keeps to herself and she follows orders. Faye admires her straight-forward and simplistic demeanor. She hopes, however, that the girl is still ready and willing to stand up for herself, though Faye doesn't know her well enough to say one way or the other.
- ●Jihl Wilzuun - Faye is definitely fond of the Keeper who found a place in her free company--who wouldn't be? So very sweet, a wonderful baker, always striving to be helpful. Faye is worried, however, by her perceived lack of self esteem. Her timid and often pessimistic nature make it clear to Faye she has been shut down by others frequently in the past. She hopes the young Miqo'te can find confidence and stop being so hard on herself. She'd like to see the teenager come out of her shell and learn to be comfortable with herself.
- ●Kellach Woods - A patron of tavern night. What is he always wearing? What is he ever wearing? Why?
- ●Uni Puma - A Miqo'te woman and captain of a transportation company who joined Harbingers as a Martial Archon. Faye thinks the woman has a good heart, but her emotions are tumultuous and she lacks in self control. Faye hopes she can learn to follow rules and behave enough to retain her spot in the free company.
- ●Belian Lightfoot - Another "problem child" of Harbingers, a former pirate who Faye recruited after they'd met when he purchased her time during a charity date auction. She knows from their conversation on their date that he is well-intentioned and competent, but his habit of butting heads with others in the company--her fiancee of all people in particular--has caused problems. Like with Uni, she hopes he can settle down and find his place.
- ●Kylar Dashiva - Faye isn't sure what to think of the Keeper of the Moon. He dabbles in strange and taboo things. However, these talents could prove to be useful, and so far she's had no evidence they've been used for any foul deeds. Rather, he's sought to help her and the company with his skills. She has a wary trust of the Miqo'te.
- ●Rinneliese Kartrette - Faye's cousin, from the side of the family she'd rather not acknowledge, who showed up suddenly at Harbingers' Estate one day. Faye had never even met the young woman, but she was in no position to turn away the visitor, and the family resemblance was at least believable enough. Faye is wary of the woman, and her pompous, prissy nature is unable to deny. Faye tolerates her attitude, however, believing it the product of painful insecurity rather than actual conceitedness. She is trying to get a feel for if the woman is friend or foe. She believes she's seen hints of doubt in her cousin--potential opportunities that Rinn's attitude can perhaps be changed, and maybe her loyalty can be shifted, as well... Faye intends to keep her cousin close to take advantage of this weakness and make Rinn a certain ally when the time is right.
- ●X'unmei Noh - A young Seeker girl who came to Harbingers for help finding her missing fiance who'd had ties to the company. The mission was overall a failure, and the company offered her a place to stay in consolation. She is timid, usually keeps to herself or to her bodyguard, but she seems sweet and friendly enough. Her apparent connection to Melfice both worries and intrigues Faye, but the teenage Miqo'te herself seems entirely harmless.
- ●Vallois Villeneuve - X'unmei's Wildwood bodyguard. He doesn't talk. He doesn't have expressions. Does he even have feelings, aside from slight annoyance? All he does is go downstairs to drink, and spend time with the girl in her room. He does not seem ill-intentioned, but Faye is not fond of how little she knows of her company's guest. How can she get a feel for someone who never speaks nor acts?
- ●Sasha Rochester - Faye is not sure how to feel about the noblewoman. Others praise her manners and etiquette. Faye, however, has found her to be a little presumptuous and pompous, crassly blunt and far too keen to attract the affections of men. She's spent enough time around the upper class to tell the difference between true dignity and those who must convince others of their social standing by acting stuck up and belittling others. Faye is uncertain if perhaps the others have seen a different side of Lady Rochester, or if only she has had enough experience with nobility to tell the difference between confidence and conceit. Either way, the Midlander woman doesn't seem nefarious or dangerous, so Faye has no feelings against her.
- ●Aya Foxheart - The blonde waitress from the Quicksand with the charming accent. Faye's exchanges with her have been brief, but always pleasant. She has never seen the Midlander without a smile or face, always possessing a pleasant and welcoming attitude. What's there not to like?
- ●Otto Vann - A strange and eccentric man, but always a gentleman and always amusing. His fashion is typically daring, to say the least. Faye can easily admire someone witch such confidence and charisma. Faye has not seen him around for quite some time, however.

History/Timeline
Faye was born the first and only child to Selene and Nicholas Covington, an upper class Midlander family who made their home in the Twelveswood around the northern part of the East Shroud. Her mother was from a long line of nobility who enjoyed sewing in her free time, her father a talented military general and tactician in the Order of the Twin Adder. Growing up, her parents ensured she would be well-educated, hiring private tutors to teach her everything from etiquette to history, literature to mathematics. She was spoiled with a life of wealth and luxury, any material possessions she desired granted to her at her smallest whim. While privileged in some ways, she was unfortunate in others. Lessons took up much of her time, and even when she was free from her tutors, there was little opportunity for playing or enjoying her childhood. Her mother was often busy or simply a bit of a stick in the mud, and her father usually away from home with work or holed up in his office where Selene insisted the young Faye not disturb him. The household staff spent more time with the girl than her own parents. She had no siblings, nor were there other families in the area with children her age to play with, their home rather secluded with only trees and sylphs for neighbors. She was left to spend her time alone, reading, studying or practicing the contents of her daily lessons, or wandering about the woods near her home, even then not allowed to stray too far lest she fall victim to the dangers of the Black Shroud.
She was not entirely sheltered, however. She was dragged to balls and galas, luncheons and dinners, the social events a frequent part of her life, though even there she was usually forced to listen to adults prattle on about things that held little interest to her. Rarely were there any other children her age or around, and when there were, rarely were they permitted to romp around like children, but rather expected to act as little adults and maintain patient silence to allow their parents to talk. Sometimes, however, she was taken to visit the Twin Adders or the Conjurer's Guild to further her knowledge of healing and conjury. Her skill in conjury was a great concern to her father--her tutor insisted she had a healthy pool of aether to pull from, and she was nearly a prodigy with magicks offensive and defensive, yet when it came to healing, she drew into her aether and inflicted harm upon herself. With practice, her condition slowly improved, but she never quite had a knack for healing. She was skilled enough at mending wounds, but at the expense of her own aether.
Despite her mother's constant concern for her safety and innocence, Faye was not ignorant to the horrors of the world. Her tutors spared no details in their explanations of the world and its often violent history. Sometimes, she would overhear her father and his friends and comrades, sharing tales of the woes of war. She also still paid frequent visits to Gridania, a mini-aetheryte conveniently located within their home for ease of travel, to struggle in vain to break the habit. Even there, she was forced to grow up fast. In her time healing the wounded, she saw firsthand the horrors of war, soldiers and even civilians terribly mangled, many beyond saving. It may have been jarring at first, but the young Hyur soon simply grew used to such things. They were only a reality, an unfortunate fact of life. Wounds and death were both a part of nature--and while nature wasn't a thing she much cared for, it was something she simply had to accept, even respect in her studies of conjury. Blood, broken bones, burns, births, miscarriage, death, disease, corpses--all became surprisingly commonplace in her life of safety and privilege.
At age 15, she was allowed her first dose of freedom. If she was old enough that her mother was pressuring her to find a suitor for marriage, then surely she was old enough to travel outside the Shroud alone, right? Her father deemed the argument good enough, apparently, and granted her permission to deliver a letter for him to his colleague in La Noscea. It went as well as could be expected of a young girl's first adventure into the world alone--she quickly became lost. However, she was ill-prepared when she stumbled across a village in wreckage, corpses of people and Sahagin both strewn about, none left alive but an injured boy around her own age who pleaded for her help before passing out at her feet. She healed and healed his wounds, and all mended but the gruesome scar running down his face straight through with an eye. Just as she was on the verge of passing out herself, rescue came in the form of Maelstrom reinforcements.
The boy she had saved was the only known survivor of the attack. His family and his entire village left missing, dead, or Tempered at the hands of the Sahagin. His home was destroyed, everyone and everything he'd known, gone. Faye begged her parents to offer him shelter, and they agreed, taking him in and raising him almost as their own son. Life with an unexpected new housemate was difficult to get used to, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. As annoying as the boy, Zularti, was, it was pleasant to have the company of someone her own age. He did not let the bloody events that day in La Noscea drag him down--in fact, he barely even acknowledged them. It probably should have been cause for concern, but there was no way to bring it up to the boy who was upbeat and never sitting still. Zularti dragged Faye off on constant adventures into the Shroud, and she soon began to view him as her own brother.
After a couple cycles, however, Zularti was ready to move on, lest he overstay his welcome with the kind family. Faye caught him trying to sneak out in the middle of the night, a simple bag of belongings and a spear strapped to his back. He explained to her he was going to travel to Coerthas in hopes of becoming a Dragoon. He had always dreamed of being a hero, being skilled in combat and helping others. He couldn't be swayed to stay, and he left, promising he'd see Faye again. Life was remarkably dull and lonely in his absence in the years after his departure. Things went back to just as they'd been before Zularti's arrival, as if he'd never been there at all, save for the constant reminder of his absence of his presence for Faye.
