-Flynt Reddard

Overview

Flynt Reddard (legally referred to as Flynt ban Reddard under Garlean annexation naming conventions), in a short statement, is a problem child. From a rather wealthy family, Flynt grew up spoiled; taught at a young age that money is power. Living by that standard, Flynt constantly seeks a means to be the center of attention, his ultimate goal being known throughout the realm. Vices get the better of him, succumbing to a compulsive need to take chances, throwing gil into gambling rings, chocobo races, and pit fights. Nothing stops the man from getting off his high-horse to get his hands dirty provided he's goaded (often by his own naivete) into such situations. Adept in knife fighting and hand-to-hand combat, self-taught; he attempts to make quick work of any snags and tears in the greater scheme of things. A self-proclaimed professional in his line of work, 'The Hyena' is far from any sort, despite his potential. Play a game or two with him, it would be very much so worth your while.

From Ala Mhigo, he bore witness to the mass exodus of the Highlander clan at a young age, staying behind with his conforming father. Raised by Garlean law, molded and shaped in their image, Flynt found sympathy among the tyranny. Drawing his love for their technology, he bears a soft spot for the Empire in his heart despite their antagonism toward the Eorzean states. Such sympathies made Flynt into a rather uncaring and passive person, strongly preferring to avoid the topic of his citizenship as much as possible knowing full well of the possible repercussions. Such Garlean predisposition also factors into Flynt's contempt toward non-hyur races; Miqo'te are polygamist savages, Elezen are enemies of his kin, Roegadyn are uneducated louts, the list goes on.

Now, the Hyena makes his income through a gambling ring he dubbed "Diabolos' Due", named after the Void lord of dreams. The ring specializes in dice, among other games of the host's whim. Flynt carries a bizarre, 1000-sided clockwork brass dice of Goblin origin. Purchased in bulk by Flynt from a Goblin tinker, these dice are certainly unique, and topic of much discussion between the Major and his clients. Flynt will limit a player to a maximum of three games per night, believing that it would prevent unnecessary profit/deficit. Those who feel exceptionally daring (interchangeable with stupid), may wager their soul to a game of Flynt's choosing. Though no actual souls are lost, it's simply a term used by DD hosts to refer to a player's loyalty.

Those who find themselves unlucky enough to actually lose such a high-stakes wager to the dice now work for Diabolos' Due. Dressed in red, these game hosts are treated well, given complete freedom of their lives as so long as they play, being handsomely rewarded when their titular overseer is amply pleased with the winnings. Flynt firmly believes that being part of his inner circle entitles them to the same luxuries as he; meaning hosts are free to keep their winnings, as so long as they bring back another player in some point in their career to become a Diabolos' Due member.

A Reddard in Red

Appearance

Height: 5'8

Complexion: Corpse-like

Hair: Brown, sometimes dyed blond. Inconsistent.

Eyes: Ice blue, passable for white (And contrary to popular belief, the eye-patch is purely cosmetic. He had suffered from a nuclear cataract in the past, however.)

Voice: [1] [2] [3]

Clothing Style: Practical, lightweight, dainty but cleverly armored. Mobility in short bursts.

Laterality: Right-dominant

Favorites

  • Color: Scarlet
  • Food: Granola. Fiber is good for you.
  • Drinks: Mint water
  • Scent: Goldbile, Napalm.
  • Place: Central Thanalan, Costa Del Sol

Goals

Flynt seeks to unify the gangs of Ul'Dah to form one colossal superpower to contest the Ul'Dahn throne. Should this colossal union be made, Flynt wishes to choreograph a coup d'état and overthrow the Sultanate and establish a lawless utopia. From an out of character standpoint, this is obviously impossible, and just used as a driving force for roleplay within the coalition.

Religion

Garlean law prohibited the practice of nonsecular teachings and practices in Ala Mhigo, therefore nonreligious.

Alignment

True Neutral

Personality

Flaws

  • Gambling Addict
  • Classist
  • Racist
  • Quick to draw arms

Fears

  • Ghosts, you cannot punch a ghost, and that's terrifying.
  • Socks and sandals
  • Being played like a damn fiddle

Talents

  • Can play the piano
  • It's almost as if he can smell danger, which is more often than not; sweat.
  • Convincing liar and manipulator.
  • Conversational in most spoken Eorzean dialects.

Intelligence

  • Equates to a university-level education after the Garlean occupation of Ala Mhigo. Terribly censored throughout it's political views and biased in Garlean favor, an education is still an education.

Abilities and Skills

Personal

  • Martial Arts: Flynt is adept at close combat after spending most of his childhood marveling at the devastating melee combat gladiators and wrestlers would flaunt in the ring, utilizing a myriad of memorized styles to achieve victory.
  • Adept Gunplay: After access to Ishgard, Flynt picked up a novelty revolver in the marketplace to serve as a last resort. After spending far too many hours shooting at small desert mammals, he's become rather quick on the draw, despite the gun's laughably poor quality.

Weapons

  • A pair of broadswords purchased from an antique store. Restored to perfection, they're much more fit for premeditated combat.
  • A pair of fighting knives, double edged with a stainless steel tang.
  • Short-barreled revolver, kept in terrible condition. For when the going gets tough.
  • A set of three much smaller knives, little use in combat, therefore disposable as throwing weapons.

Magic

  • Blitz: Expel concentrated Aethereal lightning from the palms.
  • Healing Pill: A traditional Ninjutsu, Healing Pill does exactly what you'd think: Flynt can heal mild cuts, bruises, and abrasions on his body.
  • Hide: A skill all rogues have by trade, this allows Flynt to conceal himself into the surrounding area. This does not mask his aether.
  • Smoke: A means for Flynt to escape conflict, often used in tandem with Hide, Smoke can be used to distract and disorient those standing by.

Relatives

  • An esteemed Goldsmith (Father, whereabouts unknown)
  • A nameless woman (Mother, whereabouts unknown)
  • Viktor "Vinzer" Reddard (Younger brother)
  • Mirabelle "Mimi" Reddard (Youngest sister)
