Basic Info

Since departing her position in the Arrzaneth Ossuary, Keaira Twinning has served as a scrivener, a scholar, a collector, and researcher, and mercenary. She is a soldier at heart, and much of her personal life is guided by philosophies she established after her discharge from the Immortal Flames. She keeps personal feelings and admissions to herself, save for those few that she trusts enough with them. Often, she believes herself undeserving of her own desires and wants, and will 'protect' those she cares for from even hearing them.
While her expeditions and interests have ranged from the Sagolii to the Coerthan highlands, her more recent activities see her at the borders of Ishgard itself, and beyond. Previously, she worked to arrange passage for herself into the Holy See and the lands further north by a trade with House Haillenarte. Her recent position within the ranks of the Maelstrom Levy 81st company, however, has pushed her personal motivations and plans to the side in favor of aiding new companions. She remains dedicated to them, and apart from the tiring jobs she completes on the side to ensure an income for herself, the majority of her time is spent performing in any role that she's required.

Appearance & Personality

Keaira's style of dress is focused more on utility than flair; function over aesthetic. Though she certainly looks after herself, the varied nature of her work's demands will find her in everything from robes to leather. After the recent loss of her right eye, she will not be seen in public without an eyepatch.
Well versed in both thaumaturgy and arcanima, she carries a focus and a grimoire with even proficiency. Though not without a smile, she carries out her work in the interest of success, usually at any cost. Keaira spent several years avoiding violence to the best of her ability, but fate has constantly drawn her back into battle, with foes both of man and otherwise. Ever a soldier at heart, she will always fight with every onze of strength she has. She is not a particularly skilled mender, but recent events have pushed her into improving her talents. Near always, she carries a rifle of custom make over her shoulder; it's the preferred weapon in her collection, for sake of saving her own aether for when it can best be utilized.
Twinning was born with synesthesia, and though it often affects her perspectives and emotions, she rarely speaks of it, for risk of being treated poorly. She has also suffered from severe flashbacks since her service in the Immortal Flames, a problem that she is constantly seeking remedies for.

Biography

Childhood

She is the younger sister of four older brothers, and her more casual mannerisms certainly show for it. She grew up in Ul'dah proper, supported by her parents' skills in their respective professions. Keaira does not talk about her early years, often. To date, she is very rarely seen visiting her family, or speaking with them in public. When she does, it is only to leave a small parcel or letter at the small abode that her family has long since inhabited. Those who dig deep enough into the history of her family's name would easily discover that the woman Keaira's father is currently Bonded to is not the same woman that brought her or her brothers into the world.

Young Adult

Keaira spent her teenage years, and onward into adulthood, studying at the Arrzaneth Ossuary. Both capable and eager, she gained academic prestige at a rapid pace, and earned a rank and station within the Immortal Flames. From Private to Corporal, she saw extensive conflict across Thanalan. No compatriot will ever speak ill of her service, apart from on how swiftly she departed it after the massacre at Carteneau. Documentation of the events which led to her dishonorable discharge are will-hidden with the annals of the Flames headquarters; she was the sole survivor of her squad, a deep-desert reconnaissance group that is still missing, apart from Keaira herself. All other members of the squad are listed as 'killed-in-service,' in spite of their remains never having been recovered.
She remained in Ul'dah for two years after her discharge, slowly beginning to gain a reputation as having private expertise of rare collections and Eorzean history. Unknown events, however, led to her swift departure from the desert altogether. After some time traveling, she managed to use the meager living she'd acquired to set up a well-kept secret home for herself, in Gridania. From there, she continued her hard-wrought profession, which led to her building numerous contacts and acquaintances between the three city-states, culminating in a position of Assessor within Mealvaan's Gate, in Limsa Lominsa.

Present

Keaira lives on her reputation. Perhaps her highest recent station has been an Assessor at Mealvaan's Gate--a holding that she only left a short time ago. She never remains in one place for long, and the location of her actual home is only known to those closest to her. She continues to work as something of a "rare-items detective."
After all that transpired in Mor Dhona, Keaira has found herself working alongside the Maelstrom Foreign Levy 81st company once again. In Coerthas this time, she continues her own private efforts while also assisting those few whom she has come to recognize as friends. Never-confessed attachments notwithstanding, she is constantly torn between her almost instinctive need for solitude, and the sense of rekindled camaraderie that she hasn't known since her time serving in the Immortal Flames. A recent, separate venture alongside the 81st put to test many of her own vulnerabilities, and prompted no small amount of soul-searching. In an effort to bolster the philosophies she holds dear while simultaneously combating her reliance on isolation, Twinning has submitted herself to the 81st's roster.

Miscellany & Connections

In addition to being a student of contemporary magicks, Keaira is also passionate about Eorzean, and world, history. While much of her work involves finding relics and tomes for her various clients, a select few know that she has a small collection of her own. Her own transient lifestyle lies in stark contrast with her appreciation of timeless things. Among her collection are several rare, expensive tomes, arcane relics, (illegal) firearms, and other miscellany that hold either monetary or personal value.

"Twinning came to us at a point in our lives that, looking back on it, had the utmost way of timing. I was not sure about her at first, nor did I know that we would get along so well. Truly, if the world let me have my way, we would be a trio, my sister, her, and I. She has a way with words and a tender heart underneath all the layers of strife and toughness both." Onuma Ahntifi

"Twinning? I first remember seeing her on that tower, and she's certainly made a presence since! Some fellows are reluctant to have a little fun in the face of danger - and thankfully for this realm, she's not that type at all! Her aim is uncanny, too... ah, I could simply go on for bells~!" "Twiggy...what can I say? Uglier than shit....but one of a kind. She's got something inside her that most folks can only dream of having. I got her back....always." Vyncent Tanner
RELATIONS - NPCS & OTHERS
Barker: (Chocobo) This bird has been with Keaira since her beginning moons in the Immortal Flames, and they've only grown closer for it. The first thing that she did after recovering from her injuries sustained during a mission-gone-wrong was to return to the Sagolii desert, praying all the while that Barker had survived. Indeed, he had, and they have been inseparable in the years since.
Maisenta Brooks: (NPC) A murderer and smuggler whose reputation began in Ul'dah, following the Calamity. The path of blood and bodies she carved went right through Keaira's Immortal Flames squad, before the criminal escaped. Brooks remains at large, and little has been heard of her, since.
Riel'a Zhwan: (NPC) The infant child of Rhesh'ir Zhwan and Y'lyfriel Sikah. Though she was only introduced to the child just before Lyf's untimely passing, she has since taken a keen interest in his upbringing. Though most see her as simply performing a duty, the truth is that Riel'a is fascinating to Keaira. The importance of family--and fighting to protect it--is manifest in her constant (yet enormously inexperienced) doting upon the boy.
Spiral Crocus: (NPC) A traitor to the Immortal Flames, and one of the only surviving members of Twinning's Immortal Flames squad. Her betrayal has not been forgotten, though just as with Maisenta Brooks, her name hasn't been publically recorded in years. Keaira once thought the Roegadyn woman to be a fast friend. The reality of her is a wound that has yet to heal.
Thya'sae Lyehga: (NPC) (Deceased) One of the sons of a dying Keeper of the Moon clan, whom Keaira had a personal investment in creating a better life for. To call these two romantically involved would have been overstating their relationship. They simply shared a respect, and were brought together by similar virtues. The death of Thya'sae and his brothers struck another deep wound in Twinning's heart.

RELATIONS - PLAYER CHARACTERS

Romantic Interest Feelings Platonic Love Good Standing Undetermined Standing Poor Standing
Ainle Goldpaw: This man may have quite literally saved her life. They've spoken a few times since, and Twinning has witnessed his innovative mind at work. She has a lot of respect for Ainle, and looks forward to the time that they can speak when their surroundings are less dire.
Ander Brookstone: Keaira met Ander through pure coincidence, when she returned to the Twelveswood to pray after a troubling mission. Though she did get around to praying, the occasion was made memorable by the kind Elezen man. Later, the 81st encountered him during a particularly dangerous venture, leading to a much longer, more meaningful dialogue between these two, after. She is increasingly curious about him, but also quite endeared.
Auriana Wynter: Keaira carries a large amount of respect for Wynter, having witnessed what she's capable of on more than one occasion. However, hesitance still stays her from too much trust. For the same reason that she has trouble trusting herself--a sense of broken struggle--Twinning has difficulty placing overly much expectation on this combative highlander woman.
Brielle Ashenfist: They've met few times, but Twinning finds her interesting. They recognized each other's potential on the field rather quickly, and that shared respect has led to shared, painful details from Brielle's private life.
Dieudonne Fournier: Though Keaira has a difficult time thinking of Donne apart from his chocobo-torn trousers, she also knows him to be a stalwart companion. They spent a brief evening exploring a set of ruins together in the Forelands, and his own curiosities piqued her interest. She intends to sit down and talk to him, some near sun.
Ehrinn Thorn: Upon joining Rhesh'ir's company, she was assigned to Sergeant Thorn. Playing the part of the professional mercenary, she was dutiful in reporting to her, and also surprised (and not surprised) at the nature of the discussion that ensued. Slow to trust, that bond was a bit more established after Keaira herself was promoted to Lieutenant, and she was given a chance to speak with Thorn, further.
Fen'rin Taveck : Not knowing what to make of the man, Twinning has chosen to take him at face value. He's sometimes bumbling, most times endearing, and has a cute pet. He also has a growing talent in an area of magickal studies that Keaira is entirely unfamiliar with, which is part of the reason that she continues to pick at his brain. The other reason, of course, is that he's just bloody friendly.
Ferai Caolann : Perhaps the oddest person that Keaira has met in her short time as a guest of the Maelstrom Foreign Levy 81st. For as much of their dialogue consists of ridiculous banter and verbal competition, she would have a great deal of difficulty denying her enjoyment of their every encounter. Ferai is a mystery, and Twinning is fond of mysteries. Most recently, she played a part in quelling a dark element from Ferai's past; she is very happy to have done so.
Jebei Moks: Though she's not certain what has stricken her about the auri man, Twinning finds that she both enjoys him, and has respect for his talents. No sooner did she learn of his capabilities on--and off--the field, than she began thinking of how the 81st could best make use of him. To boot, he is an interesting balance of straightforward bluntness, and genuine kindness.
Khairen Tumet : Keaira knows more about this man through Onuma, than she does personally. He seems the sort to protect those who matter to him, and hasn't done anything to endanger the trust of any of his companions. Knowing how much he means to Onuma, Keaira has put her trust in him. It also helped, just an onze, that he was part of a daring rescue effort in the Coerthas Western Highlands.
Kodaro Ba'rococo : Keaira has been impressed by Kodaro's capabilities more than once. She sees echoes of herself as a young soldier when she looks at him, watches him, and would never deny that it prompts a certain amount of nostalgia. At the same time, she cannot help but worry for his future (mostly due to her own experience).
Lynn'wo Vahnal : Though Keaira is lacking in any personal opinions about Lynn'wo, she sure as the Hells recognizes his usefulness in a fight. Together, they've pulled off some amazing combinations that have turned the tides of entire fights (or so they might tell you~)
font style="color:#9EC60B;" size="3">● Mizuki Hagane: While Twinning knows very little about this woman or the path that brought her to Eorzea, she has been nothing but helpful and friendly, continually cropping up to help the 81st when it's in need. Most recently, she has provided the advice, guidance, and key components for Keaira's exploratory study of astromancy.
Onuma Ahntifi: Keaira's friendship with this woman arrived at an odd time, and at an odd place. She recognizes someone with a soldier's heart who has never lived that life. Perhaps they've arrived upon such shared ground by what they have each lost, but such complications remain unquestioned. Twinning sees Onuma as one of the 81st's most reliable, and someone that she can trust with a few, very personal secrets.
Ralamano Nulumano : Having finally met this man face-to-face, she's found herself impressed by him. After a frustrating first meeting, she has only come to respect him more. Now, she openly recognizes that Ralamano has played a significant role in giving her life newfound freedoms. Recently, she has used her close proximity to the rest of his company to keep the injured main appraised of important goings-on.
Rhesh'ir Zhwan: To say that Twinning has become pretty godsdammed fond of Rhesh'ir would be something of an understatement. While she fights to keep more complicating feelings close-to-the-chest, her respect for his leadership and talents takes precedence, and she's unafraid to voice it. In addition to Onuma, his was the motivating presence for her choice to commit to the Maelstrom Foreign Levy 81st Company, for better or for worse. After his wife's passing, she has done her best to be present, helpful, and respectful; her feelings on the matter remain quite genuine, just as her affection and fondness keeps strong. She knows that he pulled her from a self-destructive path, and is quietly thankful.
Seda'li Tayuun: Mouthy. Mouthy, mouthy, mouthy. She nevertheless appreciates his apparent dedication to this rag-tag group of adventures, and would be hard-pressed to not enjoy both his company and his foul-mouthed commentary.
Senelle Silverlight: This woman is a curiosity, and they've only spoken at length since the death of Y'lyfriel Sikah. Senelle is the one of the few people in the whole of her life that has helped with the psychological problems that she carries with her. Keaira has begun to recognize the role that this woman fills in others' lives, and will likely seek her out again, for aid and discussion.
Syrress Detilderan : Though they've spoken infrequently, this seemingly devout woman has made a good impression. Coming from a pious background, Keaira has appreciated the two instances in which Syrress has led prayer to the Twelve, but she knows there's more to her, than that. Rather than simply look forward to future meetings, Twinning will likely seek her out.
Upa Zuvhe : Though Keaira hardly knows this girl, the few times they've met has left her with a lingering respect. 'Orange Girl' obviously has a lot riding on her shoulders, after the rough times her tribe has endured. Twinning hopes the best for her, and most certainly acknowledges the air of authority and responsibility with which she conducts herself.
Vyncent Tanner : He's foul-mouthed, gruff, confrontational and difficult to maneuver. Thus, Keaira thinks he's probably worth keeping around. They've talked a lot, of late, and though neither has relinquished in their demeanor, they get along fairly well. Because of his tendency to work and travel alone, often without informing anyone of his intended whereabouts, Twinning tends to worry about him. It was this worry that brought her to the Dravanian forelands, and the same worry that wouldn't let him finish a haunting fight against a terrible enemy, alone. Though it caused a fair bit of conflict in her to do so, she doesn't regret it one bit.
Y'lyfriel Sikah : (Deceased) Twinning scarcely knew this woman, apart from the standing and reputation she seemed to have with other members of the 81st. She witnessed Lyf's bravery on two occasions before her death, and they were of great enough magnitude that she will be remembered by them.
Zarek Earthshaker : Appointed as Twinning's temporary bodyguard during the 81st's 'final conflict' with Fifirya Susuriya. In spite of her clear fascination and curiosity with this man and his abilities, she's more concerned for the type of attention that such things are going to bring down on him.

Family

Keaira's living family consists of her father, three brothers, the woman who her father married after Keaira's mother died, and her son, Albert. All reside mostly in Ul'dah, and most work beneath Keaira's father, Lowell Twinning, as goldsmiths and jewelers. They're an exceptionally pious family, and for reasons quite their own, none seem to carry any positive esteem for the youngest daughter. Most worldly is Alaire, who frequently makes journeys between the three city states. Arthur is exceptionally talented in the family's trade, and most consider him likely to inherit it. Mirielda's son, Albert, was in the Immortal Flames throughout the entirety of Keaira's failed career.
