Character

General

Onuma is a miqo'te that lived on the outskirts of Gridania prior to the Calamity. She was one of a family of three that lived somewhere in the southern thickets of the Black Shroud, but since that time she is the only surviving member. Thinking she lost everything, she moved to the harsh desert region of Thanalan to try to start her life anew. When she arrived at Ul'dah, she had little but the clothing on her back, two throwing knives and a few mint currencies of gil on her person.

Nearly four cycles later, she is now making a fairly earned name for herself amongst the merchants and has been seen as a threat to competitors for her goods. Despite being renown for her efforts in the marketing business, she began to spread her goals elsewhere and took up arms against the guerrilla warfare executed by the Amal'jaa, and soon became a familiar face on the most traveled trade routes of Thanalan. In this span of time, she traveled everywhere to both learn and spread her capabilities. She now uses those learned skills to live comfortably.

She has since moved on to other things, engaging her endeavors to be a free-reign Paladin from the Sultansworn. She has yet to feel she has reached that status in full, but given her time with her newly founded friends she believes she will learn what it is she is missing.

So far, they have overcome immense trials to be where they are today. But they are one friend less, and while that impact has been weighing heavy on their minds, Onuma has begun to learn a lot about what it means to be a true paladin in the wake of this event, and what she has come to expect in the future.

Appearance

Onuma stands tall for a miqo'te woman, a full five fulm, four ilm in height. Her stature is largely unimposing to the other races, but among her peers she could be considered intimidating for this trait. Her black hair is roughly chopped by the nape of her neck and often mussed, owing to her the appearance of a woman who is more concerned about finishing her work than looking fashionable and pretty. She has a pair of large, expressive amber eyes that seem to play a large role in firing up her ghostly white face. Her lion-like tail is long and thick; it is often an indicative measure in which, much like her ragged ears, it expresses her feelings strongest when animated.

She prefers dark colors over vibrant ones, and for that matter is hardly seen without her armor or weapons nearby. On the rare occasion, though, she will attempt to dress up, often in two parts reluctance to not look like the laziness she feels.

==
Behavior
== Onuma can be approachable, but more often than not shies away from interaction with others. Her attention is almost always set on the task at hand, whatever that may be, and this can be mistaken for an unwillingness to converse with someone and a lack of awareness for her surroundings.

On a social level, given the direction a conversation takes, she may display a sense of trust. Onuma can be agreeable if not respectful and, provided the opportunity, will at least attempt to connect a bridge of understanding between herself and another person. On the other hand, she is guarded about a great many things and, if provoked, has a tendency for bullheaded acts that can easily lead to an unhealthy amount of confrontation.

She isn't well known for having a great control over her emotions and this may lead her to project an icy, reticent attitude or, at her worst, talk with her blade instead.

Combat
==

While Onuma has an understanding of the aether, she has yet to tap into her connection with it further than her ability to mend wounds and balancing the elements. She is far better at picking up how to learn weaponry, and above all else has honed in on her ability to wield a blade. More or less, she trusts herself more when in the arms of a sharp object and something to block projectiles with over a focus.

Friends

:Lotan'to Jiub - Onuma remains devoted to Lotan'to, but their last conversation with each other left her mentally reeling. "Change will be coming, and things will never be the same beyond that," he said to her, after conveying the truth to his detachment to the world -- of the moment. No matter what she does to relieve the twisting knots in her stomach, the tension has nowhere to go and the apprehension plaguing her has only worsened.
Y'lyfriel Sikah - Onuma has come to view Y'lyfriel as not only a sister, but her shoulder to lean on. No other person gives her the complete comfort of being able to share intimacies like this bookworm. Onuma tends to feel a bit of guilt for distancing herself in times of need, but even when she does, she can't stay away from the sunseeker girl for long. Just like sisters should be.
Rhesh'ir Zhwan - Onuma has come to find a great deal of trust in Rhesh'ir. Where she might have otherwise spoken to Y'lyfriel, past the time of strife, Rhesh'ir came to her and listened to what she had to say. It surprised her, how much someone she could initially view as a jester could be so earnest and, well, caring. Onuma feels like a new door has been opened in their friendship, and finds him more approachable than ever. And while not necessarily a sexual attraction, she still finds herself surprised by the things he does and says at times.
Tahla'li Tayuun - Onuma can't quite tell, but the absence of speech between herself and Tahla'li makes her wonder, since the tragedy. Not that they'd spoken much before, but it was certainly more than they have had over the course of the past moon, that's for certain. Still, he's said at least a few things to her lately, so she hopes that means they're still on even terms.
X'linwh Tia - (Deceased) Onuma has overcome the initial shock that Lin's brutal end shook her to the core with. But now, she struggles to let the past sleep undisturbed. If there was something she could do - anything, for that matter - she would have done so. And he might have lived to see another day. His last moments haunt her to this day, in her sleep.
Rah'na Lihzeh - Onuma expresses a great deal of care over Rahn'a. While she knows Kodaro and Tahla'li still remain his closest friends, the loss of Lin and Suri has left him in a difficult spot pertaining to friendships, and Onuma can truly understand that. She does what she can to comfort the kit when he's feeling down.
Kodaro Ba'rococo - Onuma is proud of this sunseeker. He has become immensely brave, and that courage is what stirred them in a direction that they could keep walking. She was surprised to hear he wished to learn about the ways of the sword-and-board, but is nevertheless wholly willing to teach him, and finds his inspirations admirable.
Surilian Blu - Onuma came to accept Suri around the same time that the girl decided to detach herself from the family and left them behind. While she expresses no unrelenting feelings over this, Onuma can't help but wonder what sparked her to abandon those that came to care for her and seek shelter elsewhere.
Dawson Colwell - Dawson has become a beacon of wisdom that beckons Onuma when in times of need, and as of late, she has had a lot of those times. His reflected thoughts has given the keeper female a lot to reconsider, and tons more to think about. His advice does not always float over her head, and while vague at times, she still reveres it ever the same. Through him she has come to recognize her own flaws, something she feels a great deal of shame over, despite that fact being something human.
U'dahsh'a Nunh - Once Dahsh'a and Onuma spoke, she could come to understand where he was coming from, and he had learned his lesson. She respects his honesty and willingness to accept mistakes and wayward thoughts that led him elsewhere. So it's with this end of a chapter that Onuma believes the two can start over, and build a bridge of friendship again.
C'aehli Ira - Onuma has not seen C'aehli of late, and wonders where it is she has gone off to. Perhaps the incident in Coerthas drove her away.
Vesna Novaar - Like C'aehli, Onuma has not seen her since before the expedition even began. She finds herself thinking about the woman from time-to-time, though nothing more comes from it than a lingering thought that perhaps she drove them away somehow. Silly as that is.
Totoko Toko - Onuma hasn't seen this lalafell since she asked her to accompany the group to Coerthas. She still has fond thoughts of this woman, but there's a worrisome feeling gnawing at her gut that something has happened, or that she was led elsewhere. Regardless, she hopes that wherever Totoko is, that she remains safe.
Mijisaa Qisaa - Onuma has conflicted feelings over Mijisaa. She wants to like the woman, but since the happenings in Coerthas, the miqo'te felt there was a great disconnect between events, and this stirred an ever greater question whirling inside Onuma; could she have, in conscience, truly not have cared for the outcome of her hired help?
Pipituu Kipichuu - Onuma has seen less of him than she has of Mijisaa, and that's saying something.
Nazyl Tharazyl - Onuma can't quite find a way to properly thank this strangely spoken lalafell, but she's happy to have finally found her - and Lotan'to's - savior. Since that time, however, he disappeared shortly after the observatorium was decimated in Coerthas. She hasn't seen him since.
Oriel Durand - Onuma doesn't know him well enough to make an accurate judgement of his character just yet, but she found this Keeper male to be friendly enough, if a little quiet. She hasn't seen him around since.
L'mila Lania - Onuma met this young miqo'te at the same time she met Tyago. Though vastly uncultured and unlearned of the world, Onuma doesn't believe her to be completely helpless. There is a way to teach when there's a will to learn, after all, and so far Mila has not shown her otherwise. She hasn't seen the girl lately, but after being given some details on her location, Onuma believes she is in a safe environment.
Sizha'to Chalahko - Onuma hasn't known the male Keeper for very long, though she met him through X'linwh and found him decidedly pleasant. About Lin's age, she discovered, but he and the Sunseeker are malms apart in personality. She finds him a curiosity, despite. He's an intelligent sort, and though Gridanian, she feels as though there is a connection between them, small as it might be for the moment. She's eager to learn more about this new friend. Like others, she has not seen him since their stay in Coerthas, and wonders if such a catastrophe has driven him away.
Oliwat Kokiwat - When Onuma met this wordy lalafell, she thought him to have a deathwish as he'd scurry off right into the fields of danger. After speaking with him, though, she found him spry and interesting. Not only because he is a journalist, but because of the mammet that willingly followed him every step of the way. Supposedly, she's heard it contains many a gadget prepared for nigh any situation. Whether or not that's true, she hasn't seen yet for herself. She has come to find there is a caring soul in this lalafell, and that he gives the right amount of distance without intruding. She can admire that in a person.
Rinha'li Dhavha - Onuma does not have terribly strong feelings towards this moonkeeper either way, although she was certainly sorry for the trauma he was subjected to in Coerthas. His unwillingness to readily join combat, when necessary, can sometimes be off-putting, and his pessimistic behavior can grate on Onuma's nerves. It's a delicate balance; cowardice would be too harsh a stamp, and so she continues to believe he is simply more wary than the norm.
Ralamano Nulumano - An arcanist that hails from Vylbrand (or so Onuma believes; she hasn't yet asked). She does not know much of him other than that at the most spontaneous times does he dive into his journal of some sorts to pen something. Onuma can't help but feel as if she were an experiment, and that leaves her with an awkward vibe over this lalafell. Nevertheless, his assistance is welcomed.
Arky Mosuke - Onuma met Arky two moons ago, where they ended up in a small scuffle over misunderstandings. Now that they have spoken again, Onuma believes it was just that; misunderstandings. She's come to measure him with newly-gained respect, and fast-gained was their friendship. She's taken to speaking with him when they have a chance, lately.
Keroa Mosuke - Onuma met this Keeper female while attending a grand ball in Ul'dah. She found her something of an anomaly, if only because she seemed to enjoy teasing Onuma and Arky over something that Onuma views as sacred. But she opened up more once the three of them could talk elsewhere, and it's been revealed that she harbors a great deal of care toward Arky and his condition. Questions arose, but Onuma decided against speaking them. Regardless, she could see where they could connect, and she's hoping that Keroa might take to befriending her at some point. Trustworthy friends are few and far between, though, and Onuma isn't certain how much the miqo'te truly wanted to start a new friendship, given her flighty existence.

Enemies & Other Characters

Solelle Frilaix - Onuma came to accept Solelle as a hard-built comrade; though, after watching Lin die, she harbors some small, bitter resentment toward the Elezen. Had she not agreed to going to the Stone Vigil, perhaps things would have been different. Or maybe they would not have. But Onuma can't shake that this is where they went wrong, that day.
Chesh'ir Lihzeh - Rah'na's cousin. Onuma finds him wholly different to Rah'na; two people completely opposite of lifestyle and personality. He has surprised Onuma on a few occasions, as his nature borderlines a romantic view on the world, and at times can be brash or seemingly uncaring of possible threats, as observed at Highbridge. She finds him strange, to say the least. But that isn't bad! She hasn't seen him around, much. She wonders if he went into hiding.
Alex Castell - After learning about Alex's origins and the truth behind her being with the group, Onuma has decided to relent on her judgements over the hyur girl. The Keeper has come to believe that if she can prove her otherwise good intentions, then she will no longer view the girl as a threat upon her family. Thus far, some small talk has lessened her aggression and she has let up on the oppressive hawk-eye. Alex disappeared after the dravanian horde assaulted the group in Coerthas, and this leaves Onuma wondering if that could have shattered the thin glass bridge that they had just mended.
Kalulu Morusu (NPC) - Onuma's maidservant. She's a lalafell with a whiplash tongue and has no ends to her wit and banter. She's lived in Ul'dah all her life, but while some may think that unfortunate, Onuma fast discovered Kalulu had no end of lessons to teach. She utilizes them on a daily basis, and it's astounding just how much she can pass for a noblewoman. Needless to say, though, the mi'qote would be lying if she said she didn't prefer her to stay where she can keep an eye on her.
Mutton (NPC) - Onuma's other retainer. He's a big, burly Hellsguard that takes it upon himself to be the 'guard' of the family when they're within a City-state, usually employing himself as a handy escort if not to be an available hand. Onuma grew fond of him the moment he opened his mouth. He can be grumpy, and he can certainly be mouthy, but no one could say he wasn't passionate about his duties; especially when he gets to enjoy his dreams as a cook, having been a student at the Bismarck. Of course, his mouth has sometimes gotten him into trouble, too.
Tyago Dolabnha - Though Onuma hasn't spoken much with her since their days spent at the Quicksand, she found this Keeper female to be overall friendly, if a little aloof. Onuma thinks she has a whole world stuck in her wardrobe, seeing as Tyago dresses herself in fine clothes at every corner, it seems.
Raging Sun - Onuma discovered there was a measure of respect the hellsguard earned for herself because of her combat prowess. But after the tragedy that occurred at the Stone Vigil, Onuma - though not in her best judgements at the time - also saw some means of remorse and more emotion than the roegadyn woman cared to project. Raging Sun may be the best kind of help that Onuma needs in this period of mourning, and though words are few passed between them, the miqo'te believes that someone has terribly hurt this passionate woman in the past, owing to her imposing nature.
Ansgar Broadhaft - One of Onuma's very first friends. They met when she was out traveling on the fields, away from Ul'dah. She was completely quiet at the time, consumed in her thoughts. This made it easy for Ansgar to perceive it as him being the problem, but she was quick to assure him as the proverbial ice melted and the two of them began a quiet friendship. They were content to walk silently and connect through body language, but when it came to civilization, he was the more talkative of the two. She hasn't seen the man since the incident that left him with one ruined eye.

Adalhaid Rask - A Highlander girl that took up the offers of taking care of the tribe's chocobos. She has had few chance conversations with this young woman one-on-one, and so what she has come to view her for is only from what she has perceived during exchanged talk. Her timid nature boggles the miqo'te, as she feels she is level headed and as such, reminds her of Ansgar. After a talk on Onuma's nameday, however, she believes that Adalhaid's lack of direction has what caused a staleness stirring within her. Regardless, Onuma does seem to project more warmth toward her than she would most others when she knows little of them.
Zeraia Reynard - Onuma stumbled across this woman's bookstore when reading from an advertisement on a notice board. While she did not earn too much personal talk between herself and the proprietess, Onuma owes to her some respect for having such a wide and varied collection, even going so far as to keep Garlean works. She could not deny that such an idea was handy, if not respectable.

Rumours
Easily Overheard Rumours
"That girl is trouble with the Wood Wailers." - Gridanian Villager
"Oh! Onuma! Smart lass; would love to know where she even got a hint of her bargaining knowledge. Money's a hard thing to come by these days. She learned well." - Ul'dahn Civilian
"Watch out for that one; a strong fighter and her words bite even harder if ye don't watch yer tongue. She's fiercer than a couerl." - Bloodsands Participant
"I never got to thank her after she intervened those monstrous Amal'jaa, ransacking my caravan and threatening to steal my poor chocobos!" -Foreign Merchant
Somewhat Difficult To Overhear Rumours
■ "I heard she was responsible for the Roost losing a window." - Gridanian Resident
■ "A kid was hurt by her idiocy, throwing weapons in the dead of night in the Roost. Found embedded in a tree, it was! Fool girl." - Gridanian Wood Wailer
■ "She made it up to Second-Lieutenant, but she doesn't look very proud of herself. Like she's scared. Who'd be afraid of that?" -Flame Private
■ "Her father own plantation. Traded with us once. Then never again." -Unnamed Tribal Keeper
Rarely Overheard Rumours
"Her friend came back one night, lookin' like a bleedin' maimed corpse. Not sure what happened to 'em, what havin' not seen 'em since he lost his eye, but people 'round here be whisperin' about her. Say she did it." - Passing Adventurer in Gridania
"Her pop and kid died shortly after hell rained from the sky. Coincidentally, so did a party of four Wood Wailers. Of course, no one knows what happened that day, but sometimes I wonder when I see her in the city. Who knows; there's still a missing man out there." Gridanian Resident
Player Character Rumours

"She is the greatest! She's smart, and pretty and I bet she holds alot more secrets then I do. I will grow up to be just like her and one day I'm so going to ask about those secrets. But for now I'll just hide over here and watch her." -Surilian Blu

"Her? She's a sorry excuse of a blade maiden. But then again I can see talent there. And her clothing colors are all so wrong. Waste I say! Tragic waste. But I suppose it could be worse. But then again we have something in common...I can smell it." -Liana Blu

"No one gets it done like Onuma. Her fervor is part of what makes her such a valuable friend and ally. She's all work and no play, though, and often, it shows." -Dawson Colwell

"Onuma? I can't quite confirm it, but I've heard musings that her mercenary work has the makings of myth. She and Lotan'to even assaulted a Garlean garrison alone, if the rumors ring true." -Kodaro Ba'rococo

"She sounds a leader, looks a leader. She and her lover. I don't know how she fell in with this troupe, but I feel safe with my back to her, at least. Again, my expectations are shaken, in what to expect from a Moonkeeper. Also, she wears a warrior's armor; I am not eager to fall in her ill favor." -Solelle Frilaix

"Since Y'adebh was taken from me, I'd not thought to have a family, again. Not like that. Onuma has proven to be a sister born apart from me, and I shall do all in my power to honour this sentiment. Knowing I've someone I might confide in....certain, such a circumstance as our meeting must be significant." -Y'lyfriel Sikah

"First impression? She's a Warrior, through and through. Now, though? I'm not so sure that's all there is to her. Time will tell, I guess." -Alex Castell

"Oh, Onuma. She always tries to project a rough exterior, and she certainly has a potent bite to her words. But you should see her when she thinks she's alone; always holding on and playing with those little clockwork toys I make her and surrounded by the pets I find for her. I know her better than anyone, even herself. Hehe." -Lotan'to Jiub
