Lynn'wo "Sparrow" Vahnal is a young Miqo'te male currently residing in Limsa Lominsa. He is best known as a regular street performer in the city-state of Ul'dah, earning him the nickname "The Silver Sparrow of Ul'dah" for his fascination with monochrome colours and feather motif in his performance garb. He has since adopted this name, and will commonly introduce himself as "Sparrow".

Basic Info

An illusionist by trade and a troublemaker by choice, Lynn'wo is often on the prowl for the next bit of treasure he can find or the next bit of fun he can have. Despite his more selfish qualities, he aspires to be a pillar for those around them, often never turning on the friends who put up with him.

Appearance & Personality

Lynn'wo, in terms of build, is none too special. He's of slightly above average height with a slim frame. As any basic Miqo'te would, his body is toned with lean muscle more suited for running than fierce, one-on-one combat. Down his right arm (from his perspective) was a long, black tribal tattoo. He tends to wear loose fitting, comfortable garb when not on duty with the 81st. Almost all of his clothing adheres to his monochrome motif, complimenting his pale white hair. He was almost never seen without a hat or a collar/choker of some sorts. Though he hid nothing with his hat, his choker concealed a bright red scar that encircled his entire neck.
Lynn'wo, given his lifestyle, has developed a brash, cocky personality. He is very direct about his thoughts, typically showing no restraint in blurting out whatever he felt like despite it being appropriate or not. Though this suited him on his own, his eventual signup with the 81st forced him to take a long step back and make some serious changes. He is now a tad more calm and reserved when around those in his company, and even around those outside it. Though elements of his cockiness are still heavily present, he is now much better at speaking in a way that'll not get him punched.
His voice is a bit more on the flamboyant side, with sort of a "posh" accent to it. This was likely a facade, as in moments of high tension or anger, his voice would crack, reverting to a voice more typical of a former Ul'dahn street rat. He also seems to avoid the use of any strong language, and is known to verbally lash out on others for it.

Biography

Childhood
Lynn'wo was born around the year 1554 in the Black Shroud. His early childhood is a distant, lost memory, but records of his tribe are documented and readily available. His tribe wasn't too large, only consisting of seven families, though each was large, all three having seven children. Upon having the seventh child, it was forbidden to have any more - the tribe believed that seven children would bring good luck to all of them, especially to the last. Lynn'wo's tribe believed heavily in the guidance of the stars - they revered them above their typical patron deity, Oschon the Wanderer.
Children in his tribe were known to receive small tattoos of stars in a ceremony that has no real documented explanation. Lynn'wo has two of these tattoos on his right cheek, just below the eye. The tattoos are given with a special ink crafted from moon daisy that glows slightly under moonlight, though this effect can only be seen from up close - after all, a tribe of hunters would be shooting themselves in the foot by doing such a thing given their preference for the darkness of night as a cover.
Lynn'wo's tribe was filled with avid hunters. At age twelve, all children of the tribe were let out for the first time to assist each other in a gathering mission. The leaders would plant a small cache of scavenged candies, and the first group to find them got to keep every single one. This was also the day they were considered adults. They would all receive sleeve tattoos from their left shoulder to the elbow, though these tattoos were not too detailed - they were filled out with time depending on the child completing certain tasks, such as coordinating a group of gatherers on their own or finding any rare materials.
The culture of the tribe was an odd one. Children were held to very high standards at times - cursing was met with a slap and no supper, and the inability to hunt or be of any use to the tribe was met with long, almost cruel hours of training until the child was finally of use.
Rumors, particularly around the Wailers, speak of the horrible atrocities committed by this tribe to their kind. This remains unconfirmed, especially to the general public.
Young Adulthood
Around Lynn'wo turning thirteen his tribe began to fell apart. Internal disputes became more frequent. Eventually, families began to leave, Lynn'wo's being one of the first. As they traveled on to seek a new home in La Noscea, they were ambushed by a pack of jackals. In the chaos of the attack, Lynn'wo slipped away. Lost and without a home, he eventually joined a caravan to Ul'dah. He took up residence there, living mostly in the streets. It was then he began to learn a number of tricks and talents to help him scrape by, though at times he had to turn to stealing to eat. This eventually landed him in deep trouble as a mob formed, nearly causing a great riot around the year 1570. The mob had grown sick of theft and lawlessness in the city and began to take measures into their own hands. A large number of thieves and criminals were hung, Lynn'wo being one of them. Be it by the luck he was claimed to have at birth or by faulty engineering, he managed to escape after the rope snapped, but not until he'd been left with a nasty scar left by the noose around his neck.
Sometime around this, Lynn'wo was adopted by a middle-aged Lalafell couple. They taught him manners, dressed the boy up in fine clothing, and taught him valuable skills such as the ability to play piano and read. They treated him for what he was, however - a street rat in need of being domesticated. Sick of this, Lynn'wo packed his bags with their most valuable belongings and fled the home to return to the streets - now more cultured than before. Upon turning 20 years old, he managed to come upon information of a specific treasure - an Allagan amulet, said to be worth over seven million gil. It was located in La Noscea, however - but this didn't deter the boy. He began saving relentlessly, and three years later, managed to afford a one way airship ticket to Limsa Lominsa.
While wandering La Noscea in search of the treasure he wandered upon a group of folks at the beach. These people turned out to be a friendly bunch - an unnamed free company. Tired and sick of the dangerous life he'd been living, he latched onto them and began to tag along to monitor their activities. Inspired and with a new calling, he signed on to the free company, who he currently resides with at the present day.
Rookie in the 81st
Lynn'wo began assisting the 81st with his limited set of abilities. This did not bode well for others as his apparently useless nature destroyed his chances at respect for his peers. He was simply not prepared for such a life and it was quite obvious to those around him. Still, he was shown patience, and still, he remained determined, having never really given up as he worked tirelessly to adjust to a life other than the solitude he'd known for so many cycles.
One of his first major changes was ending his career as a thief. Now being able to afford to feed and clothe himself without crime, he simply had no reason to up until he caught wind of an old treasure that he'd never managed to find.
The keeper received an updated lead on the location of the amulet. With the help of his friends and mate, he managed to find the location - a canyon in Middle La Noscea. The lockbox containing the treasure was rigged, however, by someone who'd also retrieved information on this lead - a defected Garlean hyur. Lynn'wo was nearly shot in the head, though due to his luck, it misfired and only took out a portion of his ear. The company mended him and brought him home, though this didn't discourage him. He managed to track the Garlean to Southern Thanalan and departed with his mate. They found the Garlean preparing to auction the treasure, and after a scuffle, it was revealed that he was trying to sell it to use the money as a bribe to get his family out of Garlemald. Sparrow cared little, however, desperate for the life he felt worthy for his mate and him, and nearly killed the man. The amulet had a self-destruct mechanism upon contact with blood, however, and as the keeper took hold of the treasure with bloodied hands, it disintegrated into a small pile of dust.
For a while, his thieving flame was reignited. He nearly pushed all in his life away as he distanced himself from all but his small circle of thieves in pursuit of great treasures. It didn't take long before the negative effects of this began to rear their ugly heads, and soon, he realized the folly of his ways and backed down. After all, it would only be a matter of time before every single bit of him was put to the test.
The Garlean Threat
Though Lynn'wo had been exposed to much in his time with the 81st, none of it really ever put every fiber of his being to the test like the Garleans did. They were an enemy different than the beastmen - they were like his own. It was always easy to distance himself from the monsters he'd killed, but this? For a good while he'd managed to assist his peers in their missions without killing. Even in instances where he'd been expected to, he never truly managed to hit anything with his arrows, having never truly worked up the nerve.
During an attack on a village, Lynn'wo was severely injured after being knocked aside when trying to assist Rahn'a with an injury. There was a large panic as the Garleans laid the village to waste with cannonfire. Had he of not been lucky, the keeper would surely be dead. Instead, he was left with nasty scars both physical and mental for a good while, rendering him unable to properly perform at the level he'd hoped to.
This became clear when he was captured during an attack on a castrum alongside Vesna and Rinha'li. During his captivity he was subjected to torture and beatings. At one point he tried to get the guards to leave a fellow prisoner alone, using the guise of his illusions as a cover to slash at the man's face with a hidden blade. He was nearly shoved into one of their mysterious pods for this, yet that fate was avoided with the aid of Rinha'li and his clever words. He was eventually freed alongside Rin by his peers, yet Vesna was nowhere to be found.
To say this event had a largely negative effect on Lynn'wo's morale would be putting it lightly. The keeper had been broken by the Garleans - he sulked in his room for many moons, only opening his doors for the occasional pep-talk from his mate. Eventually he managed to bring himself along to a mission, yet it proved to be a big mistake as he broke down and experienced a panic attack in the field.
After some recovery and praise from his peers for what little bravery he displayed, he decided to go along to raid the final Castrum and rescue Vesna. It was there that he found the closure he needed after a great success. Using information he'd gathered during his containment he managed to put a stop to Vesna combusting with Onuma's help.
There were few events in the keeper's life that truly made him grow up like this. On the airship back, he finally cracked his first smile, and as a sense of relief washed over him, he knew that things were finally going to be okay.
Starlight and the months following it have brought on a lot of changes for Lynn'wo. With newfound confidence he began exploring his heritage and enriching his life. He's explored new ends of the world with the 81st, bonded with his mate, and shortly after, ended it after he felt as though his valued freedom was coming to an end. Though there was a long path of healing ahead of him, he finally had the skillset and support he needed to finally develop on his abilities and achieve the self-actualization that many dream of.
Reuniting of his Tribe
A quiet few moons have come to an abrupt halt as former members of Lynn'wo's tribe have begun to resurface. Tensions are at an all time high, and Sparrow's newfound confidence and abilities will soon be put to the test as he struggles to deal with the reality of where he came from and the people in his life.

Magic Tricks

Coin
"The Vanishing Coin"
Lynn'wo manages to make a participant lose a coin - right into his own pocket. A similar, but counterfeit one, is found behind their ear. He has since retired this.
"The Gil Duplication"
Lynn'wo bites a gil coin in half. Using some fancy handwork, he appears to duplicate them into two different coins, both matching the value of the first. If he's performing for tips, he'll usually "split" the value (ex, 20 becomes two 10s), finding that most onlookers let him keep half as their contribution.
Card
"The Triad Deck Clone"
Lynn'wo has an onlooker pick a card from his deck of triple triad cards. Each card in the deck appears to be unique. Upon picking their card, Lynn'wo will give the deck a shuffle and reveal that each unique card has just become a card matching the one the onlooker picked.
"The Card Battle"
Lynn'wo gives the onlooker a deck and allows them to look through it. They're given a clear to shuffle it freely. After that, the onlooker is instructed to draw one card at the same time as Lynn'wo to reveal two matches. This can continue until every card has been drawn. Is easily used to make money off bets.
Other
"The Sliced Apple"
Lynn'wo waves his cape across an apple to make it vanish. With another wave, it reappears, sliced evenly. This is easily accomplished by using the sharp tips of his gloves during the short moment that the apple is hidden. Prone to failure if not practiced actively and if the tips of the gloves end up dulling.
"The Half Empty Glass"
Lynn'wo will take a near-empty glass of any liquid from an onlooker. With a quick wave of his cape, he'll reveal a brand new one that's been completely filled. This one is often used to introduce himself in taverns... and is a simple one, to boot.

Relations

Romantic Interest      Platonic Love      Enigmatic Love      Sexual Interest      Good Standing      Neutral Standing      Poor Standing
Snowfeather (NPC) : Faithful companion and loyal friend, this massive snow-white chocobo was given to Lynn when he first signed upon the 81st. She was raised privately by an Ishgardian breeder to be docile yet fierce when needed. The two share a bond and Lynn'wo is rarely found outside a city without her. Her recent near-death scared Lynn'wo more than he'd ever imagined - but thankfully, with the aid of their companions, she lives to squawk at passing folks another day.
Lynn'ra Vahnal (NPC) : Lynn'wo's older brother. A couerl tamer. He refuses to admit it, but his older brother intimidates him, earning him a respect born out of fear. Still, the younger Keeper respects his brother's efforts, and will aid him to the very last.
Lynn'li Vahnal (NPC) : The eldest of Lynn'wo's non-hostile brothers. He hasn't been seen in years, and only recently resurfaced with new injuries. Lynn'wo owes his ambitious nature to his brother's influence, and is eager to pick his brain about recent exploits.
Wyra Nimh : A close companion of Lynn's. A friend, even, though he'd be reluctant to admit it. The nature of their relationship is too complicated for words. Though perplexed by recent behavior, he feels frustrated that others don't seem to understand it. He knows, however, that this is difficult. The darkness that causes her turmoil is one very few ever grow to understand, let alone experience. He also finds that she believes too heavily in tribal tradition that has no place among their new home.
Ranirus Crithalos : Lynn'wo's half brother. Possesses all the complexity of Wyra, though he was always distant enough from the greater whole of the tribe to make adapting such behaviors hard to explain. Lynn'wo finds it's a reflection of his true character rather than his circumstances, which leaves him with little sympathy for the consequences that follow in wake of the atrocities committed by his half brother. Things are at an uneasy rest now, and Lynn'wo no longer feels himself above passive collaboration with the man, he will not forget his deeds nor forgive him - nor anyone that calls him a friend.
E'liah Tia : Lynn'wo has learned much of E'liah in recent suns. A true friend, she's one of the first faces he'll turn to for anything. He has strong feelings for her that, as of late, have remained hidden in light of a few events. What happens, to him, will happen. The potential damage to a friendship that he cherishes above all, however, is not worth the prospect of romance. At times, he maintains a certain envy for the life she has, namely the tribe she grew up in.
Upa Zuvhe : A mate of Lynn's and one of his best friends, Upa has changed much in such little time as a result of his actions. Though these are mostly positive developments, other things cause him great pain when near her - namely his responsibility for the deaths suffered by her tribe. He feels she may not be ready to see who he truly is, which has resulted in a heavy distance between them. Fearing that he may lose her, he's sought to mend this. It will take time, however, but he feels they'll be better for it.
W'eleneil Bernd : It didn't take Lynn'wo long to realize the interest he had in this Seeker. After some time in the Shroud, the (initially) wary respect he had for her has cemented into something more. Though he has no idea where they're heading, one thing is clear - this new friend of his is one he values highly, and hopes to learn much more about in the suns to come. He's promised to protect her should she lose control, even at the risk of his own life.
Kikira Kira : Another one of Lynn's close friends, Kikira can easily bring a smile to his face. Initially considering her naive and in need of protecting, he was quickly proven wrong. She's capable of much on her own, and Lynn'wo will make this known if others overstep their bounds and halt her progress. She has a bright future ahead of her, and Lynn'wo hopes he can be there to see her reach it. To him, it's an odd coping mechanism for his own failings - but one he is not ashamed of.
Ferai Caolann : Ferai, for all his troubles, is a good friend and one Lynn'wo can turn to for a spot of fun or even advice from an angle unlike one he's usually used to. He's found himself recently drawn to the man for reasons he cannot yet explain.
E'yune Noba : A friend of E'liah's. He respects her fierce nature and desperately hopes that she one day chooses to leave her tribe, if only for a few suns, to explore the world with him.
Z'koa Rhiki : Even if they don't speak as much as he wished they would, Lynn'wo considers Z'koa to be a wonderful friend. Her efforts in mending Snowfeather meant a great deal to him, and though he paid her back in the form of a small gift, he still feels he could do more.
Tertersa_Terin : Crystal is not the naive, inexperienced girl she presents herself as and Lynn'wo knows this. Hoping to give her an opportunity to prove herself, he's given her a job - the crafting of new arrowheads specially designed to apply various poisons. The prototype she showed him was quite impressive, and he hopes to see more from the inventive lalafell.
Rinha'li Dhavha : Both have faced extremely harsh realities together. How the two have suffered so similarly yet only recent spoken to each other baffles Lynn'wo. He feels as though the two can sort out troubled histories together. Rinha'li proved to Lynn'wo that he is not alone in what he's gone through, and that alone qualifies him as a good friend. Their recent talks have only furthered Lynn'wo's desire to befriend him.
Tahla'li Tayuun : The two have been reunited as of late, and Lynn'wo couldn't be happier. The expertise he showed upon repairing Sparrow's bow was impressive, and the offer to teach his methods was appreciated greatly. He's proud to have Tahla'li as both a close friend and now mentor again.
S'aerdha Tia : Recent events lightly soured his view of S'aerdha, but Lynn'wo understands fully that it's slightly unfair to a man who was simply trying to prevent further violence from spilling. Often has S'aerdha's wisdom and assistance pulled Lynn'wo from the worst of his situations, and that's something he's grateful for - even if being forced to behave frustrates him.
Y'lyfriel Sikah : Y'lyfriel's advice has guided Lynn'wo quite a bit as of late. Her assistance with discovering the aetheric properties of his bow has proven to be extremely helpful.
Kanaria Melkire : Kanaria has quickly become one of Lynn's better friends. He can rely on her to be there for him should the need ever arise, and he'd drop anything in a heartbeat should she ever call for his assistance.
Ainle Goldpaw : Lynn'wo is quite interested in what Ainle does. He recently agreed to assist Lynn'wo in modifying his bow.
Nesra Kajhir : Nesra has recently become Lynn'wo's first choice for all his tailoring needs. She's offered to assist him in designing his costume, and even offered him a job modeling a few of her designs. Though she's the rare type that can leave him timid and blushing, he greatly enjoys the bits of time he gets to spend with her - be it discussing designs or being teased by mutual friends.
Senelle Silverlight : Nesra's business partner. Her recent capture of a thief in the company's estate has greatly impressed Lynn'wo. She's clearly quite diverse in her talents.
Kodaro Ba'rococo : Kodaro has been a reliable source of help for Lynn'wo. Even if they butt heads at time, Lynn'wo considers Kodaro to be a true friend.
E'lios Nunh : E'liah's stories of her father has further drawn the Keeper to the man he thinks of as a father, even if he won't admit it. Recent worries about challenges to his Nunh status have Lynn'wo on edge, but he'd do anything to protect his family. Anything.
Rhesh'ir Zhwan : Though they've never interacted much on a personal basis, he finds Rhesh'ir to be an inspiring, level-headed captain and a role model in a sense. He envies his way with words and is slightly jealous of the man's charm.
Onuma Ahntifi : An unfortunate incident involving a plush toy and his new bow has put a dent in his plans to try and reach out to Onuma for future assistance. Lynn'wo fully understands the foolishness of what he did, and is currently in the process of trying to mend the damage - both to the friendship and the toy.
Noor Falmah : Noor's talents have intrigued Lynn'wo. He hopes to discover more about the nature of her abilities. She's certainly a bright individual with a lot to offer in terms of knowledge.
Shoshopu Shopu : Lynn'wo consideres Shoshopu to be a dear friend, and is very happy that his talent with card tricks helped her somewhat in retrieving her family's turtle.
Ralamano Nulumano : Ralamano's assistance in registering Lynn'wo as an official Lominsan citizen earned him heavy favor with the Keeper. Safe to say, he's Lynn'wo's go-to guy for all things bureaucratic.
Seda'li Tayuun : As suns came and went in light of their conflict, Lynn'wo soon cooled his heated disdain for the fellow keeper. He's found a sort of friend in him, even.
Vesna Novaar : Though her origins may bring fear to some, Vesna has risked everything for the keeper on more than one occasion despite having no onus to. He would do anything to help her - even if it risked his very being.
Fen'rin Taveck : Despite teasing the man to no end, Lynn'wo views Fen'rin as a fun individual to be around. He understands and shares in a lot of the man's frustrations, and for that reason, he's elected to lay off of him for the time being. He just wish he'd respect a more traditional approach to medicine - powdered aldgoat bladder is an effective method no matter what he says!
Lihrit Lightfoot : During Lynn'wo's vagrancy in Ul'dah, often-spoken were legends of the fabled "Lightfoot" and her uncanny ability to escape the brass blades. Many years later, Lynn'wo was delighted to finally stare in the face the source of these stories.
Fyrilsunn Fiandoensyn : Tough, quiet, and stoic, Lynn'wo finds this man to be a perfect target for his pranks. On the battlefield, he's proven to be quite fierce and a reliable ally. When everything goes south, he certainly knows who's back he's hiding behind!
Dawson Colwell : Dawson is an interesting individual. Lynn'wo has taken up the task of keeping the company's sun room clear of weeds in order to overhear what wisdom he might espouse to others. It also provides a nice cover for him swiping whatever moko grass he might find lying around in the area.
Rah'na Lihzeh : Lynn'wo no longer possesses any interest in befriending the boy who he finds foolish and ultimately unloyal. To befriend the man who caused Lynn'wo such pain is one thing - to forgive one's own betrayal with a claimed attempt at offering a second chance? A cowardly means of excusing one's own behavior in light of working to fix it.
