Character

General

Onuma is a miqo'te that lived on the outskirts of Gridania prior to the Calamity. She was one of a family of three that lived somewhere in the southern thickets of the Black Shroud, but since that time she is the only surviving member. Thinking she lost everything, she moved to the harsh desert region of Thanalan to try to start her life anew. When she arrived at Ul'dah, she had little but the clothing on her back, two throwing knives and a few mint currencies of gil on her person.

Nearly four cycles later, she is now making a fairly earned name for herself amongst the merchants and has been seen as a threat to competitors for her goods. Despite being renown for her efforts in the marketing business, she began to spread her goals elsewhere and took up arms against the guerrilla warfare executed by the Amal'jaa, and soon became a familiar face on the most traveled trade routes of Thanalan. In this span of time, she traveled everywhere to both learn and spread her capabilities. She now uses those learned skills to live comfortably.

She has since moved on to other things, engaging her endeavors to be a free-reign Paladin from the Sultansworn. She has yet to feel she has reached that status in full, but given her time with her newly founded friends she believes she will learn what it is she is missing.

So far, they have overcome immense trials to be where they are today. But they are one friend less, and while that impact has been weighing heavy on their minds, Onuma has begun to learn a lot about what it means to be a true paladin in the wake of this event, and what she has come to expect in the future.

Appearance

Onuma stands tall for a miqo'te woman, a full five fulm, four ilm in height. Her stature is largely unimposing to the other races, but among her peers she could be considered intimidating for this trait. Her black hair is roughly chopped by the nape of her neck and often mussed, owing to her the appearance of a woman who is more concerned about finishing her work than looking fashionable and pretty. She has a pair of large, expressive amber eyes that seem to play a large role in firing up her ghostly white face. Her lion-like tail is long and thick; it is often an indicative measure in which, much like her ragged ears, it expresses her feelings strongest when animated.

She prefers dark colors over vibrant ones, and for that matter is hardly seen without her armor or weapons nearby. On the rare occasion, though, she will attempt to dress up, often in two parts reluctance to not look like the laziness she feels.

==
Behavior
== Onuma can be approachable, but more often than not shies away from interaction with others. Her attention is almost always set on the task at hand, whatever that may be, and this can be mistaken for an unwillingness to converse with someone and a lack of awareness for her surroundings.

On a social level, given the direction a conversation takes, she may display a sense of trust. Onuma can be agreeable if not respectful and, provided the opportunity, will at least attempt to connect a bridge of understanding between herself and another person. On the other hand, she is guarded about a great many things and, if provoked, has a tendency for bullheaded acts that can easily lead to an unhealthy amount of confrontation.

She isn't well known for having a great control over her emotions and this may lead her to project an icy, reticent attitude or, at her worst, talk with her blade instead.

Recent activities and events have led Onuma to showing her true nature under distress. She hides her emotions beneath her eyes and she travels in pure silence, most of the time.

Combat
==

While Onuma has an understanding of the aether, she has yet to tap into her connection with it further than her ability to mend wounds and balancing the elements. She is far better at picking up how to learn weaponry, and above all else has honed in on her ability to wield a blade. More or less, she trusts herself more when in the arms of a sharp object and something to block projectiles with over a focus.

Lately she's made more use out of her throwing knives.

Friends

:?❤?Lotan'to Jiub - After being given the answers she was looking for, Onuma was more than devastated upon learning the truth about the man she fell in love with. The two have since spoken and collected on their thoughts, but Onuma is unsure what new path awaits them, and how well she will be able to navigate it. Fear and stress keep her driving. Lately both of those feelings have subsided some, but the uncertainty of things has rendered her confused about what to do with him. After coming to bridge things between herself and Lyfriel, as well as Rhesh'ir, Onuma has come to hope that things will work out with Lotan'to, too.
Y'lyfriel Sikah - Onuma has come to view Y'lyfriel as not only a sister, but her shoulder to lean on. No other person gives her the complete comfort of being able to share intimacies like this bookworm. After many suns spent mulling over their latest talk, Onuma came to acknowledge that what Lyfriel told her merited truth. Onuma may not agree with everything Lyfriel said about why she and Rhesh'ir did things the way they did, but Onuma did have to admit that she was not being herself. It was largely due to them - and Lotan'to - that she discovered that the crisis lied within herself.
Rhesh'ir Zhwan - For some time Onuma was left feeling like she could not have even the most simple conversation with Rhesh'ir without the two of them arguing. After several suns reflecting on the past moon, she left the comfort of her skin and let her guard down to share the insecurities and confusion whirling around in her head. This resulted in the strongest bonding moment the two have experienced yet. Onuma can't help but admit that she missed this relationship and hopes that the two of them will have a stronger friendship for it. Knowing she wasn't just a joke to Rhesh'ir made her feel more like a person again.
Tahla'li Tayuun - Onuma is unsure of where her relationship with Tahla'li stands. He seems to accept her presence, but it is lukewarm. The last they truly spoke, it was concerning Kodaro and his relationship coming to an end. After that, she's kept her distance since things fell through with Lotan'to. Tahla'li's unending devotion to Rhesh'ir unnerves her because of it. Onuma is considering taking the request made by Rhesh'ir and Lyfriel to heart and confronting Tahla'li in someway and talk with him.
X'linwh Tia - (Deceased) Onuma has overcome the initial shock that Lin's brutal end shook her to the core with. But now, she struggles to let the past sleep undisturbed. If there was something she could do - anything, for that matter - she would have done so. And he might have lived to see another day. His last moments haunt her to this day, in her sleep.
Rah'na Lihzeh - Onuma expresses a great deal of care over Rahn'a. While she knows Kodaro and Tahla'li still remain his closest friends, the loss of Lin and Suri has left him in a difficult spot pertaining to friendships, and Onuma can truly understand that. Onuma hopes to offer what Rahn'a has given her and bless him with the shoulder and encouragement he needs to take on his new lessons in conjury, and mold his fears into confidence and new strengths.
Kodaro Ba'rococo - Onuma feels a great deal of guilt over her inability to protect Kodaro from the vicious encounter he had to endure on the free company's latest mission, but she can admit to having relief that he so readily stood up again, with no less a change in his heart. In a way, he has taught her about when it is proper to express compassion.
Dawson Colwell - It has been some time since the two of them have truly talked, but upon taking an extended invitation to sit and meditate alongside Dawson, Onuma hopes to really bond with the hyur. She has noticed his change of behavior of late, and it leaves Onuma with concern.
U'dahsh'a Nunh - Dahsh'a is another uncertainty with Onuma right now. He comes and he goes; she isn't sure whether or not he intends to remain with the tribe, but his affections of late have made her wonder, too. The bitterness between him and O'vitah gave her minute pause, and now she watches for a change for the better.
C'aehli Ira - Onuma has not seen C'aehli ever since things went downhill in Coerthas. Vesna's lack of any memory over the woman who hired her has left her questioning what has happened between the two of them.
Vesna Novaar - It seems Vesna found Onuma and her tribe while they were sparring in preparation of the next line of duties they took as an official free company. But the woman doesn't seem to have an inkling of a memory about C'aehli, nor the fact that she was her bodyguard. While concerned about fact, Onuma hasn't had much time to sit down and speak of it. She will have to take Vesna on the offer of food and drink soon, however, if she wants to learn of the change.
Oriel Durand - Onuma doesn't know him well enough to make an accurate judgement of his character just yet, but she found this Keeper male to be friendly enough, if a little quiet. She hasn't seen him around since.
L'mila Lania - Onuma met this young miqo'te at the same time she met Tyago. Though vastly uncultured and unlearned of the world, Onuma doesn't believe her to be completely helpless. There is a way to teach when there's a will to learn, after all, and so far Mila has not shown her otherwise. Onuma had a small reunion with Mila one day when she was brought to Arky's home. But things went awry between Mila and Arky, and that was not a situation that the paladin wanted to step into. Perhaps after things blow over...
Sizha'to Chalahko - Onuma hasn't known the male Keeper for very long, though she met him through X'linwh and found him decidedly pleasant. About Lin's age, she discovered, but he and the Sunseeker are malms apart in personality. She finds him a curiosity, despite. He's an intelligent sort, and though Gridanian, she feels as though there is a connection between them, small as it might be for the moment. The two ran into each other once, but it was at a bad time. Sadly, she's not seen him since.
Oliwat Kokiwat - When Onuma met this wordy lalafell, she thought him to have a deathwish as he'd scurry off right into the fields of danger. After speaking with him, though, she found him spry and interesting. Not only because he is a journalist, but because of the mammet that willingly followed him every step of the way. Supposedly, she's heard it contains many a gadget prepared for nigh any situation. Whether or not that's true, she hasn't seen yet for herself. She has come to find there is a caring soul in this lalafell, and that he gives the right amount of distance without intruding. She can admire that in a person.
Rinha'li Dhavha - Onuma feels as though she misjudged Rinha'li's character. Knowing of his history and what has caused him to feel and behave the way he does, Onuma senses a great deal of understanding and kinsmanship with the boy, even if he may not. She hopes to lend her hand to him now, should he accept it, and overcome the low way of living that he experiences now.
Ralamano Nulumano - An arcanist that hails from Vylbrand (or so Onuma believes; she hasn't yet asked). She does not know much of him other than that at the most spontaneous times does he dive into his journal of some sorts to pen something. After speaking more with Ralamano, her feelings towards him has warmed up more and she feels as though she can see him as more than just a stony judge of character. Onuma has also discovered that they think more alike than she may have initially thought. That's a plus.
Arky Mosuke - Onuma met Arky two moons ago, where they ended up in a small scuffle over misunderstandings. Now that they have spoken again, Onuma believes it was just that; misunderstandings. She's come to measure him with newly-gained respect, and fast-gained was their friendship. She's taken to speaking with him when they have a chance, lately.
Adalhaid Rask - A Highlander girl that took up the offers over taking care of the tribe's chocobos. Her timid nature boggles the miqo'te, as she feels she is level headed and as such, reminds her of Ansgar. After a talk on Onuma's nameday, however, she believes that Adalhaid's lack of direction has what caused a staleness stirring within her. Regardless, Onuma does seem to project more warmth toward her than she would most others when she knows little of them. The girl surprised her with the strength she carried when they sparred, and it pleased Onuma to know she hadn't given up.
Ehrinn Thorn - Onuma met this hyur during a training session. She had seen her before, but they truly didn't get to speak until then. The girl has a keen eye for archery -- something Onuma lacks. She's already proven to be resourceful. She also has an art for tracking. So far, Onuma's impressed.
Lynn'e Sparrow - Onuma doesn't know very much about Sparrow, except for the fact that he takes a liking to Rahn'a and treats him like a little brother in the weirdest way and largely desires to join the free company. He has no direct skills to speak of that Onuma can tell, but if his rambunctious stories prove anything, she will wait to see what he's got.

Enemies & Other Characters

Solelle Frilaix - It was some time when Onuma saw Solelle again. In actuality, Solelle found her, and the two talked. While Onuma first felt the chill of resentment at the elezen's casual reappearance after that fated day in Coerthas, the miqo'te's inner quarrel subsided and gradually the two of them bonded. She could not hate nor dislike this woman, and for good reason; it was no one's fault what happened. Solelle would make better a staunch ally than a bitter rival, or at worst, her enemy. And what more than someone that has a mouth on her, too? Like Rhesh'ir, Onuma doesn't know what to expect from this woman each time they meet. But one thing's for sure, it runs deeper than familiarity. Something about their last encounter just told her so.
Rahn Lihzeh - Rahn'a's mother. When they first encountered her, she appeared little different than the bloodthirsty Siroccovi warriors. Underneath the guise, however, was someone who was no less a person than Onuma and the group. She respects her a great deal.

Chesh'ir Lihzeh - Rah'na's cousin. Onuma finds him wholly different to Rah'na; two people completely opposite of lifestyle and personality. She hasn't seen him for a long time now.
Alex Castell - Onuma has not seen Alex for many moons. Wherever she is, Onuma spares only a few minutes to think about her and wonder over her whereabouts.
Kalulu Morusu (NPC) - Onuma's maidservant. She's a lalafell with a whiplash tongue and has no ends to her wit and banter. She's lived in Ul'dah all her life, but while some may think that unfortunate, Onuma fast discovered Kalulu had no end of lessons to teach. She utilizes them on a daily basis, and it's astounding just how much she can pass for a noblewoman. Needless to say, though, the mi'qote would be lying if she said she didn't prefer her to stay where she can keep an eye on her.
Mutton (NPC) - Onuma's other retainer. He's a big, burly Hellsguard that takes it upon himself to be the 'guard' of the family when they're within a City-state, usually employing himself as a handy escort if not to be an available hand. Onuma grew fond of him the moment he opened his mouth. He can be grumpy, and he can certainly be mouthy, but no one could say he wasn't passionate about his duties; especially when he gets to enjoy his dreams as a cook, having been a student at the Bismarck. Of course, his mouth has sometimes gotten him into trouble, too.
Tyago Dolabnha - Though Onuma hasn't spoken much with her since their days spent at the Quicksand, she found this Keeper female to be overall friendly, if a little aloof. Onuma thinks she has a whole world stuck in her wardrobe, seeing as Tyago dresses herself in fine clothes at every corner, it seems.
Raging Sun - Onuma discovered there was a measure of respect the hellsguard earned for herself because of her combat prowess. But after the tragedy that occurred at the Stone Vigil, Onuma - though not in her best judgements at the time - also saw some means of remorse and more emotion than the roegadyn woman cared to project. Raging Sun may be the best kind of help that Onuma needs in this period of mourning, and though words are few passed between them, the miqo'te believes that someone has terribly hurt this passionate woman in the past, owing to her imposing nature.
Ansgar Broadhaft - One of Onuma's very first friends. They met when she was out traveling on the fields, away from Ul'dah. She was completely quiet at the time, consumed in her thoughts. This made it easy for Ansgar to perceive it as him being the problem, but she was quick to assure him as the proverbial ice melted and the two of them began a quiet friendship. They were content to walk silently and connect through body language, but when it came to civilization, he was the more talkative of the two. She hasn't seen the man since the incident that left him with one ruined eye.
Zeraia Reynard - Onuma stumbled across this woman's bookstore when reading from an advertisement on a notice board. While she did not earn too much personal talk between herself and the proprietess, Onuma owes to her some respect for having such a wide and varied collection, even going so far as to keep Garlean works. She could not deny that such an idea was handy, if not respectable.
O'vitah Nunh - Onuma met this scruffy looking male miqo'te in Limsa Lominsa. He was surprisingly calm, for a sunseeker, and it lended to Onuma a good vibe. Since that time, he has become more than just a mercenary looking for partnership and work; he's more akin to a roaming father. Onuma is thankful for his guiding presence.
Surilian Blu - Onuma came to accept Suri around the same time that the girl decided to detach herself from the family and left them behind. While she expresses no unrelenting feelings over this, Onuma can't help but wonder what sparked her to abandon those that came to care for her and seek shelter elsewhere.
Nazyl Tharazyl - Onuma can't quite find a way to properly thank this strangely spoken lalafell, but she's happy to have finally found her - and Lotan'to's - savior. Since that time, however, he disappeared shortly after the observatorium was decimated in Coerthas. She hasn't seen him since.
Keroa Mosuke - Onuma met this Keeper female while attending a grand ball in Ul'dah. She found her something of an anomaly, if only because she seemed to enjoy teasing Onuma and Arky over something that Onuma views as sacred. But she opened up more once the three of them could talk elsewhere, and it's been revealed that she harbors a great deal of care toward Arky and his condition. The one day she saw her again in Limsa, Onuma learned a great deal more about Keroa than she felt was comfortable. It's something she's kept in the back of her mind since.
Totoko Toko - Onuma hasn't seen this lalafell since she asked her to accompany the group to Coerthas. She still has fond thoughts of this woman, but there's a worrisome feeling gnawing at her gut that something has happened, or that she was led elsewhere. Regardless, she hopes that wherever Totoko is, that she remains safe.
Mijisaa Qisaa - Onuma has conflicted feelings over Mijisaa. She wants to like the woman, but since the happenings in Coerthas, the miqo'te felt there was a great disconnect between events, and this stirred an ever greater question whirling inside Onuma; could she have, in conscience, truly not have cared for the outcome of her hired help?
Pipituu Kipichuu - Onuma has seen less of him than she has of Mijisaa, and that's saying something.

Rarely Overheard Rumours
"Her friend came back one night, lookin' like a bleedin' maimed corpse. Not sure what happened to 'em, what havin' not seen 'em since he lost his eye, but people 'round here be whisperin' about her. Say she did it." - Passing Adventurer in Gridania
"Her pop and kid died shortly after hell rained from the sky. Coincidentally, so did a party of four Wood Wailers. Of course, no one knows what happened that day, but sometimes I wonder when I see her in the city. Who knows; there's still a missing man out there." Gridanian Resident
Player Character Rumours

"She is the greatest! She's smart, and pretty and I bet she holds alot more secrets then I do. I will grow up to be just like her and one day I'm so going to ask about those secrets. But for now I'll just hide over here and watch her." -Surilian Blu

"Her? She's a sorry excuse of a blade maiden. But then again I can see talent there. And her clothing colors are all so wrong. Waste I say! Tragic waste. But I suppose it could be worse. But then again we have something in common...I can smell it." -Liana Blu

"No one gets it done like Onuma. Her fervor is part of what makes her such a valuable friend and ally. She's all work and no play, though, and often, it shows." -Dawson Colwell

"Onuma? I can't quite confirm it, but I've heard musings that her mercenary work has the makings of myth. She and Lotan'to even assaulted a Garlean garrison alone, if the rumors ring true." -Kodaro Ba'rococo

"She sounds a leader, looks a leader. She and her lover. I don't know how she fell in with this troupe, but I feel safe with my back to her, at least. Again, my expectations are shaken, in what to expect from a Moonkeeper. Also, she wears a warrior's armor; I am not eager to fall in her ill favor." -Solelle Frilaix

"Since Y'adebh was taken from me, I'd not thought to have a family, again. Not like that. Onuma has proven to be a sister born apart from me, and I shall do all in my power to honour this sentiment. Knowing I've someone I might confide in....certain, such a circumstance as our meeting must be significant." -Y'lyfriel Sikah

"First impression? She's a Warrior, through and through. Now, though? I'm not so sure that's all there is to her. Time will tell, I guess." -Alex Castell

"Oh, Onuma. She always tries to project a rough exterior, and she certainly has a potent bite to her words. But you should see her when she thinks she's alone; always holding on and playing with those little clockwork toys I make her and surrounded by the pets I find for her. I know her better than anyone, even herself. Hehe." -Lotan'to Jiub

"Onuma's still our work horse, but a lot has weighed her down lately. I'm afraid she'll crack under the pressure. If she let us help her with her burdens, she might see some relief." -Dawson Colwell

"Onuma? Hmm.. She may seem scary, but she's really not! She's a nice, kind person under all her lack of smiles! She's really, REALLY sweet! You just gotta give'r a chance!" -Rah'na Lihzeh

"Tha' poor girl's go' a lot on'r mind. She's a young'n though, n' far be it from me t'tell her what t'do with'r life. She's strong though... N'she'll make it through, m'sure." -O'vitah Nunh

"The two times I met her, it was always pleasant. I wouldn't mind talking to her again, honestly. Maybe over coffee or tea or whatever she likes to drink. Maybe she can even give me a pointer or two with using a sword." -Sizha'to Chalahko
